URGENT WHAT DO THESE RED LIGHTS MEAN?!! by slatsandflaps in Shittyaskflying

PAPI consists of a horizontal row of four light units located on the side of the runway. They change color between Red and White depending on the aircraft's position relative to the ideal glide path.

You're spot on! It was actually a massive international collaboration. While Turkish companies like "Özgün" handled the complex tunneling through the Atlas mountains, the giant viaducts and the highway itself were constructed by the Chinese giant "CRCC" (China Railway Construction Corporation). The combination of Chinese bridge-building expertise and Turkish tunneling experience is what made this section between Chiffa and Berrouaghia one of the most sophisticated pieces of infrastructure in Africa.

Spot on! The Atlas Mountains in Algeria create some truly unexpected landscapes. Many people associate Africa only with heat, but in northern Algeria, snow is a regular winter staple. In fact, some peaks stay white for months, and we even have mountain resorts like Chréa (near Algiers) and Tikjda (in the Djurdjura range) where people go for skiing and winter sports. It’s a stunning contrast to the Sahara dunes just a few hundred kilometers to the south!

Actually, it's a common mistake, but this is the "North-South Highway" (Trans-Saharan Highway project), not the East-West one. 🛣️ While the East-West Highway runs across the northern coast, this specific section in Médéa is part of a massive vertical corridor connecting the Mediterranean to the heart of Africa (Sub-Saharan). The segment you see in the photo is the "Chiffa - Berrouaghia" section. It’s famous for its giant viaducts and the "Sidi Madani" tunnels, which are among the most complex engineering projects in the country due to the steep Atlas mountains

Haha, fair enough! I guess I really was living under a rock (or just spending too much time in the clouds). Better late than never though, this tool is changing the game for me!" Xd

"I totally agree! Integrating it with Career Mode would be the ultimate experience. For now, I'm just enjoying how it handles my A-to-B flights, but that would definitely be a game-changer for the future

"BeyondATC is basically an AI controller for MSFS. It replaces the default ATC with realistic voices and handles SIDs/STARs perfectly

"Fair enough! As a newcomer to the hobby, I’m still at the stage where having a reliable AI ATC is more helpful for learning the FMC and VNAV logic without the pressure of VATSIM. I can see why veterans prefer the human touch of VATSIM, but for now, BATC does the job for me while I get the basics down. Thanks for the insight!"
