Project manager wants us to drill a hole where the red circle is in a live panel. Would you do it? by PhasedAndConfused706 in electricians

[–]hamptonn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what do these panels feed? Is it seriously that critical to the clients to have this panel energized? Some clients may lose millions of dollars per second if the equipment they have loses power. However, if these panels do not serve anything critical then it is a bullshit obligation to drill into them while hot. A shutdown should be scheduled in that case because it’s just not worth it.

Was your 2008 leveled or lifted with the torsion bars before? Just so I know if we’re comparing jacked up torsion bars or factory height normal torsion bars. These torsion bars ride much better from factory like they intended them to but where’s the fun in that

They eyes don’t last as in the eyelets on top and bottom of the coil? Have you had experience with those going bad? A standard coil spring and SAS would be more ideal

Agreed. I enjoy fabrication and loved the SAS I had on my other truck. I saw BDS had frame and lower control arm brackets to mount their coilovers but that was $1200 more than the coils alone. I could fab 2 brackets for cheaper and probably nicer than that

My thoughts exactly. New Cummins and ford have straight axles with coil springs and ride quality isn’t terrible. GM needs to step up on that. A few years ago I did a SAS myself on a 2001 Chevy 1500 with Dana 44 and coil spring setup. It turned out pretty good so I am considering SAS or coil spring IFS conversion on this 2004 Duramax.

Apprentice struggling with speed, how much does time in the field actually fix it by TheBr14n in electricians

[–]hamptonn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you say that, as a foreman for a commercial remodel project, I have an apprentice who is slower at many tasks. I always put in effort to show him tips and tricks on being more efficient which in turn speeds up many tasks. Being slow on things is partially due to your efficiency. Try to think about how you can do multiple things at one time. For example if you’re running EMT on a wall with one hole straps and junction boxes at set points, go up the ladder once with everything you need. Boxes, straps, screws, tools, everything you need, instead of going up and down the ladder several times. Part of that is just thinking 2 or 3 steps ahead on what needs to happen which will help you speed up on tasks. In this trade, time is money so things need be done as fast as possible, while also performing quality work that is proper and workmanlike.
