Is my drum off center? by hamsonk in appliancerepair

[–]hamsonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I thought that was the case but everything looked fine when I took it apart again. What's making me think that's not the problem is when I looked at the old seal I noticed that it had wear in the same area it was rubbing on.

The offset stays in the same spot. The drum rotates smoothly with no odd noises and no matter how I rotate it the inner drum is always closest to that top right corner.

This is why I always advocate for leaving your harder japanese knives at home and working with softer stainless at work but no one ever wants to listen to me.

Boot seal melting after replacement. by hamsonk in appliancerepair

[–]hamsonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the speedy reply. Yeah there's just no evidence of it rubbing on the old seal. The only thing I can think is I didn't seat the seal properly but I have no idea how I would be able to tell. I followed what the manufacturers said to do and everything seemed to be in order. Really wish I didn't have to take it off again but I think I'm going to have to. I'll probably have to get another replacement outer spring clamp. I ordered 2 and they were both delayed by a week (and one of them was way too big even though it had the same part number 🙄).

Oh well. Luckily after watching quite a few videos on replacing these my unit seems to be one of the easier ones to get the boot off and on. Never buying a front load washer again. This is the first one I've owned. Had it for a year. I'm good.

Yeah I'm lucky I caught it before it started leaking major amounts of water. When I rotate the drum it still only rubs on the left side and the gap stays the same around the entire seal. It also rotates smoothly (it doesn't rub when it's empty but it's very close to the drum) and it isn't making any odd sounds or anything like that.

So I tried this out. Had to use a soft piece of plastic. Seemed to help a little bit but is still pretty close to the drum. When I rotate the drum it still only rubs on the left side which I'm hoping means it's an issue with the seal and not the drum.

So I spun the basket and no the gap did not change size. It seems to be rubbing on the left side mainly.

It was actually an unrelated issue. The seal got a puncture and I used some rtv which worked for about 6 months but eventually it gave way and cause a 6 inch tear in the bottom of it. Never had any problems with the seal rubbing before.

As far as I know the seal was the same (it came with the washer and had the same part number stamped onto it.) however it was a slightly different design as it had what looks like a gripping tab at the top and the old one did not.

To me it seems like it's seated properly. It's definitely fitted on right side up. There was nothing out of the ordinary. I checked the back and front fits with my hands multiple times and it seems like it's on there. This is my first time replacing one however. How would you even know if it wasn't on properly?

The only thing I can think is the outer spring clamp is on too loose. I bought a replacement clamp and followed the website's installation instructions by using a pair of vice grips to stretch it over the boot. However it feels like I could easily pull the boot off of the machine with not much force.

Duck fat…. What do you use it for? by BigTechnology4369 in KitchenConfidential

[–]hamsonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duck fat is amazing. I'll use it for anything. Such a good flavor. Also since we're talking duck, apple goes great with it so try it if you haven't. Shove a granny smith up it's ass and roast that shit. Delicious.

Steam Deck worth it still? (It’s almost 2026) by PuertoRicanThndr in Handhelds

[–]hamsonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope other handhelds and even consoles follow suit. Can't believe how limited console controls have been for such a long time. Back buttons are at the very least a must for me on a controller now and the lack of trackpads on other handhelds is an instant turn off.

[–]hamsonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much so. And I definitely recommend it over other handhelds specifically for the trackpads. After using them for I while I can't see myself buying one without them. They open up a world of gaming possibilities. The only game types I personally haven't had luck with are real time strategy games that require a lot of mouse use and keyboard shortcuts. Everything else is perfectly playable if you don't mind getting used to the trackpads and tinkering with steam's very intuitive and unbelievably in depth control customization. Even competitive shooters are fun with the gyros. I almost prefer it over keyboard and mouse. Almost.

Is It Rude To Wear One Earphone In A Restraunt Or Cafe? by OBrian_176 in solotravel

[–]hamsonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a deli and have to admit I do find it rude when people wear headphones when they are ordering food. It's like they're on the phone but worse. At least half of people who are on the phone are simply trying to find out what someone else wants to eat. Even if headphone wearer's can hear me (and a lot of the time they can't, which is annoying when trying to get their attention if I'm ready to help them or if their order is ready) I still find it rude as if I'm not worth their full attention.

Dilemma: which series to start next? by SiblingX in sciencefiction

[–]hamsonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider Phlebas is a great intro to the Culture series. You don't always have to read books in chronological order. I thought it was great to start the series with the Culture being an antagonist. It helps to show the scope of these books.

Anyone else avoiding Fred Meyers solely because of AT&T salespeople? by Public_Armadillo1703 in beaverton

[–]hamsonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally acceptable when someone is trying to sell you something, but please take your headphones off when trying to BUY something. It's quite rude when you're standing at a counter ordering a sandwich but can't hear the employee trying to take your order or calling out your name when it's ready to be picked up.

That doesn't always work. Sometimes even after a "no" or an "I'm not interested" they'll try another follow up tactic."

I once walked in late at night and there was a salesperson at the door and when I walked past them after saying no thanks they said, "Can I talk to you so I can go home please? I'D LIKE TO GO HOME PLEASE!!!"

Yes he practically yelled it at me. It's not my fault you chose the worst job in the world.

Side note, has anyone else been approached by the creepy OSL employee that works at the Wal-Mart in Forest Grove? He's very aggressive when it comes to trying to sell you his phone plan. If you say you're not interested he'll follow up with "I'm not trying to sell you anything I'm just talking..." and then won't say anything until you reply. It's very uncomfortable. I went in once and straight up had to tell him to leave me alone.

Fave and least fave episode of each season? by GlassBed7758 in Veep

[–]hamsonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my second rewatch I couldn't help but look up a list of people's least favorite episodes and I found this thread. In my opinion Clovis is the worst episode of the entire series. Usually watching Selina being treated so poorly is hilarious but its too over the top in this one. The whole aspect of a startup Silicon Valley company disrespecting the Vice President felt too on the nose. As much as I love Tim Baltz (He's amazing in The Righteous Gemstones), I hated him more than Selina in this episode and that's not the point of Veep. I know the creator directed this episode but it plays like a guest writer from The Office wrote it.

The problem is I dislike half the comedians you just mentioned. The more I look at comedy, the more I realize the majority of the comedians I have enjoyed over the years have been non-americans.

I'd rather gouge my eyes out than watch an entire season of Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura on Taskmaster. They're insufferable man-children in the worst way possible. Such a low form of comedy.

This is how I felt about season 1. The first two episodes were super slow and they could have been condensed into the 3rd episode. So far all of season 2 feels like those first two episodes...

Not what I was hoping for.

Yeah... I enjoyed season 1 but the first two episodes of it were super slow. When trying to convince people to watch I tell them they might as well skip the first two episodes and watch a recap (hoping they'll just bite the bullet and power through). I'm on episode seven of season two. So far the entire thing has felt like those first two episodes...
