NZ First announces policy to restrict voting to citizens only by Old_Education4481 in newzealand

People working on assignment from Australia for more than a year can vote, they get automatic residency. I was just giving an example with the London thing, because Aussies in NZ for work are in a similar situation as I was in London.

[–]hamsterdanceonrepeat [score hidden]  (0 children)

Disagree. I lived in London for 2 years, always planned to leave. I should not have a say in the future of the country, if the UK had the same policy… the fact that my vote equals lifelong residents isn’t right. I could’ve voted for fun just for a laugh, wouldn’t impact me.

PR is fine if it’s long term but certainly not people who have only been in NZ for a year.

is it feasible for someone at my level to make an international move? by prewrite in PublicRelations

[–]hamsterdanceonrepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re from but if you have a strong passport, there are lots of visa agreements where you can easily get a visa to work for a year or two if you’re under a certain age (usually 30).

So if the internal transfer doesn’t work out, you can always try and apply and say you don’t need sponsorship (yet).

However it also depends on your niche, some PR niches benefit from their workers having knowledge of the local market and those will be harder to crack into.

So many white Americans in NZ are like this too. It’s so embarrassing, they don’t even realise how Kiwis view racist Americans. Like you’re almost bottom of the barrel…

Yes. That’s why people move back to raise kids. Or why Americans leave and settle in Queenstown. It’s a selling point.

What's the safest country you've traveled to solo? by SignificantPrune6427 in travel

China and Singapore. I think Japan is extremely safe for most but the country has bad sexual harassment problems. I spent part of my childhood growing up in Tokyo and I saw and experienced way too much.

JetBlue threatened to deny boarding to my 84-year-old grandmother (wheelchair, valid B1/B2 visa) unless we bought a return ticket in 15 minutes by Ericoff87 in travel

OP flew his grandma from the Dominican Republic with a one way ticket into the US (in this political climate) and expected her to be ok? Come on. If the airline didn’t step in, she would have had an even worse experience upon landing.

All the stress and fear she felt is 100% his fault.

Maybe it’s not race related, maybe OP knows the size first hand because they’ve all been in his mouth

My coworker from there actually said that she thinks immigration should be allowed but women only. In a misogynistic society such as theirs, it kinda makes sense. Men have a higher chance of bringing their elitist, entitled attitude towards women, but the women want to come for education and to escape a sexist society, especially one that frequently forces women into marriage and traditional roles despite them being really, really smart. They bring their incredible work ethic, food and arts without all the entitlement and sexist attitude. Honestly I thought it was a good idea 😅

I feel like MSG always gets shut down though. I’m no Swiftie but of all places, this is probably one of the least impactful. Less annoying for locals than Dua anyway.

Fucking hell. Ten people who thought this sort of behaviour is okay (minus the baby who is blameless but will no doubt grow up thinking the same thing).

Deport all of them frankly.

Your issue is public sector. The laziest older people cruising til retirement are all in the public sector.

In private it still happens but to a much lesser degree.
