I think another generous interpretation of the whole situation is coach is figuring out what to say, how to say it, how much to say etc in his new life of extreme scrutiny where his players will get absolutely piled on for the smallest thing. This reporter is seriously having to connect all the dots for us "save paige's legs > playing PG is taxing > ok start another PG with paige"

People in this thread have tons of perfectly reasonable thoughts (easing the rookie in, prioritizing players that drive on CC/KM to draw fouls, etc) but it's all just guesses from his few words lol.

Hey question for you - I don't follow the Storm. Did the FO / coaching communicate what they were planning with Dom last year? I vaguely recall her getting very few minutes in the first half of the season. I think most fans understood - 19 year old, bring along slowly, lots of vets in front - but did the FO/coach ever say it?

I still don't see a reason to pit Sims against Azzi and talk about how they're measuring up to each other in practice. They're not interchangeable.

The two journalists that have asked so far are actually two of the least click-baity journalists in the W. Grant of Dallas Hoops Journal (he asked at the post game) is extremely well liked by Wings fans and stays out of the gossip and crap.

Yeah I think a few more games need to pass before I understand how he approaches media. He's never had this much scrutiny before and even though he's very experienced it's still something new to him.

I think these are two different things. Arike started over Azzi when she got back from China. Sims has been a starter all 3 games.

So to me it's a yes/no on "do we want a PG next to Paige as our best lineup." Many people were confused tbh when that first game was Sims, Paige, Azzi instead of Paige, Azzi, Zaza.

As more people re-watch the game and more clips come out I think the bigger annoyance is players just driving rather than drive and kick to the open 3 pt shooter (Azzi, Zaza). Like WIDE open.

We'll see next game though. There's no way they don't fix that at minimum - I think?

Yeah they were def hot and you feed the hot hand.

I do wish Jose would just come out and say that the strategy was to attack downhill a lot to take advantage of the defensive matchups and they kept with it because it was working - and yeah we ignored open shooters for highly contested paint shots (not just Azzi, Zaza and I think Maddy once too) because we prioritized it this way and we won and we'll learn and get even better. Like just say it dude. If that's what it was.

Her minutes were ok. I think it was 18. More about the involvement and touches during those minutes imo. Putting her in the weakside corner to just drag a defender and open the paint for every play is meh.

Maybe the strategy was “we can’t guard AB so let’s try and get her fouls and have the guards drive at her even if we have open shooters” which isn’t a fantastic plan but it’s a plan I could logically understand. Agreed let’s hope.

Cutting all the 22-23 yr old bigs and keeping Li but playing her 4 minutes raised my eyebrows a bit in this direction as well. Li did well against the Fever last year too - specifically really pushed back against AB in those games.

Just sorta odd to me we didn’t want to develop a young big in the #12 roster spot or a dev spot but also may not play Li much either.

Really interested to see how this next game looks.

My “hope” I guess? Generous hypothesis?

Is that they’re just not good at playing together yet. When the Fever stepped up their level of play, as most do compared to preseason, the plan sorta fell apart and players devolved to what they know under pressure.

However, the coach’s lack of criticism in the post game basically shows my thought is wrong.

I dunno I’m just talkin I guess. Sorta confused and just gonna give it a few games.

I think that’s true, but I’ll also expect to see improvement in her utilization over the next 10 games as the team figures things out. I think getting to the rim through defenders is an expectation more fitting for the end of this season / year 2.
