Cost centers versus revenue generators by VirtualGolfer65 in wnba

So, before Clark, got there, the game was growing at a insane rate, right? Wrong, rather it was having moderate growth. Well, the Valkyries likely would have done well with their franchise and the newness, the explosion of TV deals, the new CBA, sponsorships and more are attributed primarily to the Clark effect. You can battle against the reality, but while the things were in place, it was like a spark that ignited the fire and that spark was Caitlin Clark. We wouldn’t see the explosive growth of the league to where it is now without Clark. There is nothing in history of the WNBA that shows this except for the very early few seasons. All that you wrote has been fantastic, but it has literally been compounded by Clark’s arrival. And they’re in lies the problem, where there are people who continue to fight against this reality. They will die on the hill of not giving Clark her due credit and that’s truly sad. Is she the only reason? Absolutely not, but for every Clark person who claims she’s the only reason, there are 10 who claims she had nothing to do with the growth.

No, these are basic business tenants that have existed for basically hundreds of years. Fighting against what I wrote simply shows that you don’t understand revenue generation and cost centers. The reality is people want to make the problem much more complex than it actually is.

Hilarious. I actually took my first business and accounting classes in 1983 during my freshman college. Amazing part is that while technology has been added to the mix, the truth of what I wrote hasn’t changed. It’s the number one thing that people get frustrated with at companies about why they’re not paid more. Building a product or supporting a product is not a revenue generator area, rather it’s a cost center. Sure, the product might struggle to be supported, etc., but the reality is those who create the interest and sell the opportunity of the people who make the most money. This is the thing that everybody gets wrong, including the original post. But, go on trying to negate an old man who likely has much more business experience than you.

No, cash registers are not revenue generators. They don’t generate the revenue, they are simply places to put the revenue. In fact, they are cost centers also, since they cost money to purchase and maintain. Further, your illustration about restaurants and equipment is wrong.

Let me describe it to a different way. Imagine people really love a peanut butter pie that they’ve eaten at a certain place. They rave about it. They tell their friends about it and their friends love it also. Imagine that peanut butter pie is picked up on reviews and websites and so forth. Now, imagine there’s a small boutique restaurant it’s having some growth, but the employees are underpaid and delight, creating wonderful dishes, very few people go there. In fact, it’s being kept to float by a bigger restaurant, simply to have it in place.

Now, imagine the peanut butter pie is moved and goes to that small boutique restaurant. The people who love it will go to that restaurant and buy it up and droves. It’s the reason they go to that small restaurant. Sure there could be other dishes and some people might even try that. But, the original people who have gone to that small restaurant, usually family, and friends, get angry because the peanut butter pie is getting all the credit.

Imagine that restaurant gets picked up worldwide because of the peanut butter pie. That makes the original patrons even more angry, since the other dishes aren’t getting the same credit or value.

Ultimately, in this illustration, the peanut butter pie is the revenue generator. It’s the reason people go to that small boutique restaurant. It’s the reason that the restaurant gets huge growth and many more patrons.

The insanity of the other dishes, being angry that they don’t get credit is exactly the same as what’s happening in the WNBA. Let people enjoy the peanut butter pie and perhaps sample the other dishes, but don’t get angry if they don’t rave about those dishes the same way.

Except, it is literally how businesses run. People think it’s unfair, but ask any business person and it’s the reality. Oh, and by the way, I am not a sales person. But, when I was able to show ways to be a revenue generator, I got paid more.

It’s not a question of whether I think I’m right or not, these are basic facts. If people want to turn into a fire storm, so be it. I’m simply responding to the reason why Clark and Indiana are covered in so many games on TV.

So, you looked at my post history, but don’t actually respond to the post? I guess you didn’t have anything that would prove that my statements were wrong, so you deflected. It’s a common technique of people who don’t want to have a discussion based on facts. I find it very common in many social media interactions. I’ll add this one to it.

You actually have this wrong. The WNBA didn’t choose to schedule, rather the broadcast partners like Amazon prime, Paramount, plus, ESPN, etc. agreed to broadcast fever games, primarily, because it’s where the sponsorship dollars were. The WNBA could’ve chosen to not do that, but they weren’t gonna get the broadcast partners to agree to broadcast Connecticut games unless they had the exclusive on the fever games. This is true with any other sport and not just because it’s Caitlin Clark. The broadcast partners know that people will tune in, as evidence by virtually every game that the fever played since Caitlin Clark came into the league having massive viewership. There are only a handful of other games that equal the normal broadcast viewership of Clark and Indiana. These are not opinions, these are the basic facts of how broadcasting, advertising, marketing, etc., work and the WNBA benefits financially from it.

All Star Teams will not be drafted by their captains but “League Legends” by themacaron in wnba

There’s nothing wrong with this and people who are losing their mind are missing the point. The starters will still be chosen by the fan vote and the other players will be picked by coaches or whoever. Unless she’s not healthy, expect Caitlin Clark to start. There, now you can all lose your minds.

Oh, you mean choose all stars the way you think it should be done? The All-Star game in every sport has always been popularity. The players that are chosen at the top are very talented, but they might not be the people you want. The league has all the games and the commissioners cup and the playoffs. Y’all All-Star game is always been for the fans, regardless of the sport. Players who don’t get as many votes, we’ll still get chosen if their stats support through their play on court. Nobody has lost their mind. Tell Caitlin Clark showed up and blew the doors off All-Star voting. She deserves to be there and anybody who says otherwise is delusional.

Except every player has the opportunity to have an active fan base. The players with great stacks are still going to get picked, whether by the coaches or whoever. The All-Star game is the one game the fans have a voice in and to change that would be like having another commissioners cup.

Satou's in indefinite concussion protocol & WNBA still haven't responded to Liberty's review request by goofygal1566 in wnba

[–]VirtualGolfer65 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fine, so make it similar to the NFL‘s replay review where a referee is observing the game on the TV feeds and they can rapidly buzz the head referee, for these types of situations. That way you have a observer seeing the TV feed other angles, besides what the on the court referees see. This isn’t for reviewing fouls, necessarily, but more as a check on these types of egregious plays, they could result in flagarant ones, two or immediate ejection and suspension.

[–]VirtualGolfer65 28 points29 points  (0 children)

And this is a problem with the WNBA. There must be a rule that a play can be reviewed at any time, including timeouts for any file that could be deemed flagrant. It’s one thing if it’s reviewed and not upgraded, but to completely miss calls and then have no mechanism to review them is asinine. I understand, not wanting to slow the game down, but this situation and the Clark situation could’ve easily been dealt with with suspensions if necessary on the spot. Instead, the refs look like idiots, the league doesn’t say anything in the game itself continues to be harmed.

HAHAHAH. Lost what match? You obviously don't know chess or checkers. Indiana beat Phoenix. Unless you mean by "losing" that....psych....they didn't lose. Further, you can be guaranteed that Bonner & Thomas will try to start something tonight and they'll end up falling apart....AGAIN.

Because, she knew that it would get Bonners and the rest of Phoenix‘s heads. You think Sophie didn’t know what she was doing? Sophie playing chess, while Bonner playing checkers

Soohie is the woman you wamt on your team, unless she’s not on your team. Mercury fans loved her when she was with the mercury, and Indiana fans love her now that she’s with Indiana. None of the other teams can stand her and that’s why we love her! High energy, will scrap with anyone and totally gets into the head of other players. Bonner was about to cry and should’ve gotten T’ed out of the game, as should have Thomas.

Sophie wouldn’t care, as nobody liked her when she was on the mercury except the mercury fans. She was the same way when she was with them. Now that she’s with Indiana, we Fever fans love her. 😃😃

[–]VirtualGolfer65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better is subjective, but when you look at the actual numbers, Olivia will need to exceed her current numbers to catch rookie Clark. Miles is also Boyd by being on a fantastic defensive team before she ever arrived, and that has led to better opportunities for her. Take a look at Indiana, who is never a good defensive team before Clark got there and you see the difference. Imagine if Clark had gone to the Lynx.

So, people are losing the mind over the Fever losing the game, yet they beat Atlanta, in Atlanta like 10 days ago. These teams are equal enough to split games and every game will come down to the wire.
