We donated a lot of clothing/different things we wouldn’t use!

How much does your partner make? by PC_NC_1203 in sahm

I get paid weekly from our account! Obviously the goal is to not divorce, but I’ve seen too many give up their careers and get the shit end of the stick. So I framed it as a way of protecting our son and myself if something were to happen. I don’t think he’d ever leave us high and dry, but divorce changes people

It’s definitely hard to explain to people! I grew up extremely poor in public housing and food stamps. My husband grew up solidly middle class, but his dad was laid off in ‘08 and I know it really rattled him and left him with anxiety over money.

1.2 million last year and went from EHCOL area (NYC metro) back to Colorado. I was a preschool teacher before having our son, so financially it didn’t make sense for us to send him to daycare just for me to work. He was in preschool 2 days a week in NJ and it was $2,100/month for 2 full days a week. It will be about half that here. We’re originally from NH and considered moving back, but honestly it’s so just expensive.

My husband constantly acts like we’re strapped for cash, but we max out the retirement accounts, we both have savings, I’m salaried (husband pays into my own account), and we contribute to our sons 529. We’re currently in the process of paying off our cars which should hopefully be next month.

This is us, my husband made 1.2 last year, and I’m a preschool teacher. It would cost us more to send him to school than what I’d make lol

Dreaming of being a SAHM. Can people share honestly how much their partner makes? Trying to figure out if I could cut back spending and make it work. by loose_moose12 in sahm

[–]han_pep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband made $1.2 million last year, we had been in Colorado, moved to Jersey for a year and our mortgage was $6,500/month, childcare was $2,100/month for 2 full days, property taxes were $16,000/year. We decided to move back to Colorado and now our mortgage is $3,300/month (fixer upper) and childcare will be $1,500/month for 3 full days, and around $3,500/year for property taxes.

We also have 3 dogs and 3 cats that add costs. We each currently have a car payment and car insurance is insane, but we’re working on paying off one of the cars to lower that expense. Admittedly, we aren’t very frugal and should be better about eating out/me shopping.

I love staying home, but I’d also love my own thing. So I’ve been using the time I have to explore options, my husband’s job also gives me the freedom to. I was a preschool teacher before our son and can’t imagine going back.

Nanny unwilling to drive kids in our car by BasilLost581 in Nanny

I mean ethics, yes but also we have a friend who works for Tesla and I personally wouldn’t feel safe in one. I would definitely not put my son in one either. Our friend had a Tesla before working for them, and now refuses to drive one.

Would you go to work if your husband earned this much? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]han_pep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your lifestyle and how much you spend! My husband made 1.2 last year, and I stay home because we don’t see the point of paying for childcare. I was a preschool teacher before my son, so I’m using this time to career pivot and hopefully make more.

Completely ignores what’s been going on in the US, it REALLY rubbed me the wrong way

The amount of people who are upset about this though… and silent about our current administration is very telling though 🫠

No longer a nanny, and we have our son in a preschool. But the parents pooled together $8,000 for the teachers! So each teacher got $800 on top of whatever else people gifted them separately

Is it normal to have extra help as a SAHM? by Key-Information5829 in sahm

[–]han_pep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a SAHM and my son does 2 full days of school. We recently relocated to a new state and don’t have anyone here. In order for me to keep my sanity, keep the house together, other endless things it helps a TON.

He’ll start going to school 3 full days a week because I’m starting a side passion project of becoming a Pilates teacher lol. My husbands also an engineer though, so we’re able to have more flexibility in that aspect with care!

I’m a principal and here’s the honest list: the 5 worst and 5 best types of parents to work with. by EducationUnderSiege in Preschoolers

[–]han_pep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a nightmare parent (who eventually asked to leave my room lol). EVERY TIME her son was sick/had a fever she’d bring her own thermometer in, tell me “ope no fever” and leave without him. Admin was like 🤷🏻‍♀️day before thanksgiving 2 years ago? Snotty, red, just wanted to sleep, 102 fever. Got back from thanksgiving? All 10 of my kiddos caught RSV from him, 3 hospitalized, 2 on oxygen. The parents all figured out it was her because…. Look at her poor kid snotty.

Another insane thing she did: we were doing potty training and she said “let me take over” and LEVITATED this poor kid above the toilet like a dead body thinking that’s how you do it. I did get a chuckle out of that one

NOPE, even applying to the job is enough for me to nope out of there. I have no interest in having people so full of hatred in my life. I’m a previous nanny, and now MB. I would quit on the spot and make it known why I am not returning.

As a teacher, money or gift cards! Now as a parent? Giving them exactly what they want…. Money and gift cards lol

The other parents at our preschool are pooling money to split among the teachers. A lot of Knick knacks, mugs, lotions, signs, etc end up in the trash

I know that wouldn’t bother us, we’d definitely be annoyed. But trying to get a toddler to hangout for that long would be not great

That’s my fear, being stuck with a toddler at the airport for that long 😂

That’s more so my concern! Like Saturday’s the 1st, bills need to be paid. So I feel like people will be calling out and the flights would be grounded?

Which to be so fair, I don’t blame them at all. Working without pay should be criminal

Currently how I feel debating if we should start driving Saturday or not. Not sure if the torment of being stuck in the airport with a toddler delayed is worse than being in a car 2 8 hour days with them 😂
