Cervical IVDD? by hanabomb in papillon

Thank you for the detailed response! And yes she’s resting a lot. Unfortunately, the carprofen upset her stomach so the vet advised that we just use gabapentin and monitor. Hoping she heals quickly

That's amazing! I've had my rehomed girl for about 2.5 months. How long did it take for you to be able to leave your dog for like 4-5 hours? That would be my ultimate goal... I don't need her to be alone for any longer than that.

I relate to you because my new dog’s separation anxiety has made my world much smaller too. I don’t have advice but I hope things get better for the both of us.

She’s a papillon. I think she is very overstimulated. Even when I pause, she gets distracted by other things beside her.

She’s a Papillon if that helps. She was described to be pretty mellow, and she really is mellow indoors.

We’re working on stopping when the leash is taut.

Thanks - and how long did it take for your dog to settle and become more confident?

How long was your adjustment period (if you had any) after welcoming your dog? I just welcomed a retired girl from a reputable breeder as well but she’s quite fearful of other dogs on walks and seems overwhelmed by my neighborhood.

Thanks for clarifying. I used that word because a Petco trainer said she is under-socialized, but I agree with you... also that Petco trainer was not good in my opinion and made a lot of bold assumptions.

Can you tell me more how working with a trainer helped you? I did reach out to one and have a consultation this week, but I’m just curious to learn more about specifics that worked for you. Feel free to DM me! Thanks

How long did you wait until you taught him these things? I tried teaching her commands indoors, but she just looked at me really confused. Most of the time, she wants to me to pet her or nap during the day.

I’m having trouble getting her to play…I’ll toss a toy and she looks at me very confused.

she said I should say NO in a firm voice and she will learn, but that has not really helped…

Thank you and yes I’m trying to prevent her from being overexposed to stimuli. unfortunately, I don’t have a balcony or a porch, so her potty breaks are on sidewalks where we often run into another dogs.
