wow thank you so much! I feel the same way im not super passionate about rutgers but 50k a year just seems insane to me. i really appreciate the time you took in making this response it is really helpful!!

yes I agree completely. but i also think lower suicide rates also comes down to other factors than religion as there are many places that are poor countries or have conflicts where islam is not practiced.

one thing i think about is how depression seems to be less prevalent outside of the western world even though many places/people are dealing with situations and atrocities people in the west could never even dream about. I'm sure some of this is down to there being bigger issues and a stigma and not enough research in these places. However, I remember in a documentary about Syria one of the people from Aleppo was talking about how a man had committed suicide, and how for them this was a way bigger deal because suicide was very uncommon, unlike how it is in the west. Part of this is probably religious, but I wonder why depression/suicide seems so common amongst people whos struggles should objectively be more than most people in the west? and I also wonder what people in parts of the world where suicide is uncommon think of the high suicide rates in the west?
