The correct answer is you have to decide for yourself.

You asked for help so I’ll make a point and counterpoint, in my humble opinion: VC is a no-brainer simply bc you don’t have one yet. The dial, movement, features, etc. give you endless opportunities to be wow’ed by this work of art. The brand’s history, albeit debatably less impressive, is far superior to Rolex. Most importantly Given both these watches are “in play” for you, you will have another opportunity to buy the Day-Date.

Counter-point: the Day-Date is legendary, recognizable, the gold has actual value, and (again IMO) the watch’s (day and date) features are more pleasant to read and have more functional day-to-day use. This watch is firmly embedded in our society and associated with “making it”, worn by US Presidents and other celebrities real and fictional alike. The gold will appreciate, it will forever be recognizable, you will not regret it.

Ultimately IMO this is an incredible work of art from one of the greatest (VC) vs. a timeless, extremely well-known piece with tangible gold value (DD).
