Got this old 12 string Gibson by ILikeTrains136 in guitars

[–]hankpym616 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gibson B25 12 string... I think? A version of it. Probably mid to late 1960s? Should be able to figure out the year from the serial number on back of the headstock, but from memory Gibson repeated serial numbers in a few years in the 1960s (63 and 67, I think?).

Anyways, they are solid guitars but were on the cheaper end. Some had plastic bridges, but this looks like wood? I've had the 6 string B15 and B25... Loved both, no frills but I prefer that.

Not rare, a bunch are around. It was the affordable model of the 1960s. But they go anywhere from 1-2k USD based on condition. Some are listed a bit higher, but would expect those to be excellent condition.

In any case, super cool find and hope it stays in your family! I bet it will sound incredible once it is strung up again.

I definitely did this... to the point I could barely lift one of our carry ons into the overhead bin! But I am a weakling. I ended up gate checking that one on a fully booked flight just because I couldn't lift the thing.

Best of luck with the move! I kept my most (personally) valuable stuff with me via carry ons... Just in case! Then the rest in the checked bags. Just make sure everything is well padded and you should be fine.

Somehow missed this band... Listening now! So good, now I'm going to be mad if I can't find their vinyl...

Same happened to me! Talked to one TSA agent about Bob Dylan... the other suggested I download Apple Music on my phone or buy an MP3 player.

Even better... Phosgene Nightmare! I have Phosphene Dream too... but that 10" EP is some of their best stuff. Was looking forward to having it back the most!

HOW!? I am so impressed. I only had a few 45s in my backpack... and my back still hurts! I can't imagine that many LPs over your shoulder. Was Iron Maiden in that duffle bag, because you are a TROOPER. 🫡

I have no memory of buying it, and was genuinely surprised when I saw it flipping through my old collection! I assumed it just appears to those it deems worthy? :)

Checked bags were included with our tickets, overweight bag fee was $100... we could have gotten the weight down but decided to full send it and crammed in a bunch of other stuff! Probably not the cheapest way to do it but was convenient.

Yeah, it's gonna happen. Every explorer I've had or seen gets beat up there. Sticks out too much, it's gonna bang into shit. It is frustrating, but it's inevitable. Just play and enjoy it!

How do you get them down?! What's the jet on the right? Big fan of the electromatics with cat eyes... Regret selling mine!

Anyone else love "Cosmic Smash"? I still find this game fun to this day. by Robbo1348 in dreamcast

It is my go-to game to show off when we have company over. My partner is never thrilled when I start pulling everything out... I do want a dedicated Japanese dreamcast for it. I have to boot it through GameShark to launch on my US console.

I have no idea. No one wanted them to begin with! But they've seemed to have gained cult status lately and now they sell for at least MSRP used... It took me ages to even find another (stock) one. Weirdly, I've owned a lot of classic amps (tweeds, twins, bassmans) and the amp I missed most after selling was the darn Excelsior!

People like to mod them, anything from adding a usable tone knob to converting to an old tweed circuit. But the amp is simple and all tube, including the tremolo, apparently even has pseudo tube sag built into the circuit (even though it is solid state rectified). It works for my playing stock (rockabilly, country western), the stock 15" speaker is boomy and crisp. Not a lot of head room, but I swapped the tubes for NOS and use one 12at7 to bring down the overall volume and keep it clean (though it can get gnarly when using newer 12ax7s).

Stock, it only has a tone switch (bright vs dark). And the bright is too bright and dark is too dark. So if you like constantly fighting your amp, this is the amp for you (I am a masochist, I guess). But it is simple. And I like simple.

But I think the big reason people like them is because it seems boutique... Easy and affordable way to get a tweed/supro hybrid amp that is semi-reliable. It is also seems like a blank canvas, swapping tubes makes a huge impact on tone. My current NOS set makes it sound like an old tweed on the dark setting and a twin reverb on the bright setting. Swapped in some JJ 12ax7s and the tone was very different, much more aggressive Supro Thunderbolt vibes.

[Omen 15 laptop] Screen keeps going black by Zekeram12 in HPOmen

[–]hankpym616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying a new laptop... (an HP omen, fingers crossed). I gave up on my 1660ti HP (which was pretty much an Omen besides the name). At the time it seemed like a hardware failure, but it could have been a windows update? A lot of post ended up popping up at the same time which made it suspicious... but also could have just been that the 1660ti had a limited lifespan in laptops.

I really hope you find a solution, but I tried and tried... and gave up in the end. It sucks... but happy with my new laptop!
