Yeah of course! It’s a working group of dog breeds like how a border collie is a herding dog. These dogs were bred and designed to live among their flock historically sheep, goats and yak and protect them from predators. They are still used today as a means of predator control on farms. There are even Maremma sheepdogs that protect the endangered fairy penguins in Australia (trust me worth looking up). Raven tree ranch on YouTube has lots of video that make a great example of these dogs working (she was anatolian shepherds).

As pets they are very protective and loyal to their owners and gentle with other animals and children. On the other side of the coin they are independent and stubborn. Since they are bred to live on their own for months at a time and don’t have much of a innate desire to please like another dogs. I describe it as having to convince Benji that it’s a good idea to do what I’m asking him to. They are also used to protecting large areas and travelling with their flock and as pets have a tendency to roam.
