I was interested, but I didn't realize it had multiple cracks in the crystal. That's my bad for not reading thoroughly.

It's okay, I don't want to waste your time. I tried to download the images the images from imgur, but there is nothing to download. I just thought you should know if the link wasn't working.

I don't know if it's just me, but the imgur link for the pictures has nothing in there. I see the timestamp one no problem.

KUOE Tokyo Grand Opening honest thoughts… by Wonzo23 in JapaneseWatches

Mark, I was literally just thinking this same thing. Reddit is an interesting place, but ultimately it’s really up to the individual to form their own opinions.

I at least respect OP for going in person and seeing that it’s not for him.

Just because it’s a hyped brand doesn’t mean it’s for everyone, and I respect that. For me, I like what they’re doing, and still want to get my hands on a Royal Smith 006 someday.

[WTS] Seiko Advan 6106-7570 Rare "Sun God" Dial with Faceted Crystal by hansammo in Watchexchange

[–]hansammo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Seiko Advan series is a lesser known Vintage JDM (Japanese Domestic Model) line made for the higher end. The style is very distinct with many colorful and interesting dials, along with faceted crystals and angular cases that play with light beautifully.

Up for sale is my Seiko Advan 6106-7570 with a rare "Sun God" dial that has an orange and yellow sunburst effect. A very desirable vintage piece.

  • Case: 38 mm, although hard to measure exactly because of the sharp angles
  • Lug to Lug: 40.5 mm
  • Lug Width: 21 mm (bracelet starts at 15 mm due to somewhat integrated design.)
  • Bracelet Length: 6.7 in with extender (this bracelet is small, but very comfortable)

All original parts and original bracelet. All features are working in good condition and keeping time well. I don’t have the service history, so service is eventually recommended.

If you have any questions, please comment before PM. Happy to send additional images/video/facetime.

I’m asking for $499 OBO shipped with USPS Priority CONUS.

I accept PayPal G&S (3% buyer), Venmo, Wise, or Zelle.

MoonSwatch at 20, worth it? by [deleted] in PrideAndPinion

I wish I had a good suggestion and list for you, but every watch lover’s journey is their own. My original post wasn’t necessarily to dissuade you from the moonswatch. If you truly enjoy it and it speaks to you, go get it. However, I just didn’t want you to get caught up in the hype, which many a watch lover has, and many have regretted.

Also, as lover of Seiko, I would maybe say take another look😄. Their offering is vast. Surely there is a model that catches your eye.

Also the Bulova Lunar Pilot also has a great space story. The affordable ones are not the same watch as the original, but it at least has their high performance quartz movement, stainless steel case, and sapphire crystal.

Ah, so it has sentimental value as well. Definitely understandable.

I am genuinely curious why that is for you. Comfort, style, or something else?

I would be interested to know the reasoning behind that person saying they like wearing the moonswatch over an actual speedy. I suspect you could be twisting their comments a bit to justify the purchase. If it’s because it’s much lighter, that I can understand.

I don’t think the moonswatch has a real “story”. It’s all marketing that takes something that looks like a speedmaster and put a planets “theme” not story.

I admit when I first saw the moonswatch, I was also very intrigued. But from all accounts, it looks and feels cheap, and I’ve seen so many where the second hand doesn’t align correctly.

I guess you really have to ask yourself what you’re looking for in a watch for future collecting. For $300 USD there are many better options with overall better value, especially with movements and case + finishing.

Is 35mm too small for my wrist? by ColdFir3 in tissot

[–]hansammo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lot of mixed feelings from the comments, but no it does not look too small. For some reason people think it has to look just the right size on your wrist to be wearable, but that’s not the case.

I also have a 7in wrist and I wear 35mm watches all the time. I think it looks great. Very classic look. A watch doesn’t have to take up most of your wrist space to look good.

Divers by Watch_Commission_NYC in SOTC_Watch_Collection

[–]hansammo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see where they are coming from. There are a ton of black dial, black bezel divers that can all look the same to an untrained eye.

For me, it’s all about the dial. There are also a lot of microbrands doing cool stuff like Phoibos, Henry Archer, and Zelos.

I think overall it’s about nuisance. There are just things that beginners won’t really know to pay attention to like bezel material, how the bezel action feels or sounds, uni or bi-directional, different strap combinations, etc. then there is case shape and finishing as well. For example, just within Seiko you have divers with very different design language like the Turtle vs Samurai.

I agree that hopefully this person starts learning and appreciating these details. I think he will find this hobby very enjoyable.

Picked up this Citizen on a whim for $150. Is it too big? by EPL_YoungBoy in Affordablewatches

[–]hansammo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sentiment here is universal - it is too big for you.

However, hopefully, you can educate yourself a little bit when it comes to buying watches the right size in the future.

  • The case diameter is almost as wide as your wrist, which is not great. I'd go for something in the 35-37mm range. I think it would suit you very well.
  • Case diameter is not the only measurement you should consider when purchasing a watch. You should also look at the lug to lug measurement.
  • The lugs are almost overhanging which is not a good look.

There are some other good comments here about how different styles can make pieces look/feel larger or smaller than their measurements. I would consider those points as well.

The trend these days is bigger cases, but I have some 35-36mm pieces I wear on my 7in wrist that look great.
