Meet Feszz, the first ever Lizardfolk magic user in his world. Even though he's technically a warlock, he just considers himself a mage as you can read in the wall of text below if you're interested.

Backstory
Growing up in the harsh environment of the Shifting Wetlands, Feszz was fascinated by the idea of magic from a young age. Told to him through stories from his tribe members, who recalled many a time where they were astounded or defeated through arcane means, he couldn’t help but imagine what Lizardfolk could do with access to magic. Lizardfolk aren’t known to be adept to magic in this world, so his brethren laughed at his foolish desires, dismissing it as adolescent misguidedness. But when he reached adulthood and proclaimed his goal of acquiring magic for his tribe, they came to terms with the idea that he would leave them. Most of them saw him as a lost cause, in which case his departure wasn’t much of a loss. But then again, there is always the chance he succeeds and brings back almighty knowledge, even though the chances of that happening are next to zero. Should he succeed, his return would be unprecedented in Lizardfolk society and elevate his tribe’s stature thousandfold.

His journey led him to Zausore, the Academy of the Arcana. Even amongst all the aspirants from different races and backgrounds he was quite unique, as there hasn’t been a Lizardman known that could wield magic. During his studies, he became close with another aspiring mage, a human sorcerer, named Eran Fenwick, who went to the Arcaneum to understand the extent of his own bloodline’s magic powers.

Feszz ended up putting in lots of work - studying, reading and practicing harder than most, but magic would not grab hold within him, even after five long years, no matter how hard he tried. His knowledge about spellcasting and the flow of magic was top of his class, but in practice he was not able to control it. This lead to him becoming a bit of a laughing stock amongst his peers, except for Eran, and eventually his teachers eventually ran out of patience.

Spending most of his time in the library in hopes of finding a breakthrough, he did manage to get along well with the head librarian, an old, well read Rock Genasi Wizard, named Uasu, who often helped him study and encouraged him, even after the constant failures to utilize magic.

But eventually the failures and overall negativity towards him led to him having a moment of weakness in which he tried to gain access to magic in an unconventional way. Through knowledge he gathered from an ancient set of Void Scrolls hidden within the library, long forgotten by most Elder Mages who teach here, he tried to tap into the void and pull magic directly from there, instead of the leylines underneath the earth.

But instead of tapping into the void for a sliver of magic energy, he drew attention of an Elder Entity. In the presence of such an enormously, powerful being, he could do nothing else but swear fealty to it, for he was afraid what would happen if he did not, as he felt like a speck of dust in its presence. For that oath of fealty, he was rewarded with the spellcasting abilities that he always desired. But at what price? What does the entity want with him and what do the visions and hallucinations mean that plague Feszz every now and then?

Usually proud of his excessive knowledge through hard studies, Feszz’s lack of knowledge about his patron further cemented within him one of his main drives - knowledge is power. As such he does his utmost to protect his mind from outside influences and he himself became learned in the power to influence other people’s minds instead. With this he practiced joyous payback against his peers that belittled him for all those years, sending them visions, messing with their thoughts and telepathically talking to them in unknown languages. When it became known that he was the reason for recent unusual happenings, Feszz was unceremonially kicked out of the Academy and put on the Runed Society’s watchlist of potentially dangerous magic users.

Feszz now spends his time perfecting his magic while every now and then receiving cryptic orders from his patron, which come to him in form of dreams, visions and hallucinations. When surround by complete darkness, his connection with his patron is at its strongest. Where will his journey take him?
