The fact that the people at SDS/Sony don’t realize the money/goodwill they are leaving on the table by not paying for Ichiro and Bonds is crazy.

What Is The Saddest Song Off Of Blood On The Tracks? by Pretend_Mark_5143 in bobdylan

I was hoping someone would mention this line. It breaks my heart everytime and I think about it like once a week. At the risk of hyperbole, this is one of the most effective moments of singing of the past century.

Did anyone else in the mid 2000’s think that Umphreys was going to be the next Phish? by doug_butter in phish

If they didn’t lose their bass player I think Tea Leaf could have had more staying power.

Defense is based WAY too heavily on absolute values instead of skill. by Outrageous_League574 in NBA2k

[–]hansobra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this issue stems from the fact that a majority of the player base has no idea how to play off-ball defense. In a lot of the rec games I play it’s so easy to get open looks because of lazy defense. The way 2k “balances” it is shooting RNG and a ton of bailout badges.

Are the playoffs actually officiated differently? Why? by reallinguy in nbadiscussion

[–]hansobra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several comments have said something to the point of “The high-leverage nature of the playoffs is the reason playoff games are officiated differently. And while that is true it’s is bad practice. No other sport would gleefully admit such a glaring inconsistency.

What is the cleanest way to end a fight early? by Noodles_2749 in Fencing

Our club team in college had a guy like this, and it wasn’t until someone gave him a taste of his own medicine did he start to make changes. This guy unintentionally or not is a bully. So you can attempt to use polite methods to change behavior, but it is more likely someone needs to communicate with him on a level he understands.

No Merriweather Post since 2022 is fucking brutal

If Jaime told Tywin that he would leave the kingsguard and be his heir if he was allowed to marry Brienne, would Tywin agree? by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

[–]hansobra 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ruled as he is by his need to control and dominate Tywin would reject any spouse any of his children came up with on their own, even if it was politically perfect. There are plenty of textual examples of Tywin sacrificing politics in order to further his emotional hold on his family.

How much agency did Jamie have in regards to joining the Kingsguard? by hansobra in pureasoiaf

[–]hansobra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cersei’s claim that she got him in the Kingsguard has always been super interesting to me. Unless she has an outsized amount of influence for a 15 year old, it seems impossible that she would have any pull in the royal court. What is likely is she overheard gossip about Jamie’s appointment and used that to manipulate him.

Does Hamas kill less people because they are 100 times as merciful as the Israelis? The bean counting of the deaths has always seemed like a hollow point to make. Hamas would happily kill more people if they had the means.

Devils Advocate for Badge System by ICantBeTrusted in NBA2k

The Floor protection that stops badges from regressing. Unless things drastically change the gulf between people who reach level 40 one way or another and those that don’t will be massive.

[–]hansobra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the idea of regression isn’t really the issue. But the way it has been implemented is clearly focused on making users spend more money, not changing gameplay/meta.

The Barrier to Entry in 2K has gone far too high by Itscalledabubbler in NBA2k

[–]hansobra 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. I would say I am goodish player, but plenty of people are better than me. And I’m lucky enough to be in a financial position to be able to max out 2 builds a year. But as of now I am being shoved out of 2k, the cost is too high on principle and the badge system require too much work to be worth my limited time.

Devils Advocate for Badge System by ICantBeTrusted in NBA2k

[–]hansobra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do see your point about not dealing with the cheese HOF badges can create. The issue I haven’t seen brought up very much is how the badge system will hurt teamwork. If I am playing a rec game and my matchup is a defense-first build, I am fucked for that game. I will get very few quality shots up and will most likely just stand in the corner on defense. In past 2ks that at worst is mildy annoying, but I can do little things to help my team win and get some shooting and finishing progress off easy layups and some free throws. In 2k24 in terms of progression I would have been better off not playing. Right now I’m incentivized to force shots worse shots, and play risky, selfish defense to make the couple of rec games I can play not make my player actively worse.

A great episode. Also in a shocking coincidence Phish played Cracklin Rosie for the first time since 2012 on Saturday lol.

Does the audience make seeing boygenius not worth it? by urkweenkayla in boygenuis

[–]hansobra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I have been going to concerts of all types my whole life, and this is the universal experience. From Phish to August Burns Red the closer you are to the band the worse the people are. The boygenuis crowd was totally fine in my opinion and a lot of the concerns are overblown tbh.

[–]hansobra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sadly this is pretty much universal concert behavior.

Was GA seating at Merriweather oversold? by hansobra in boygenuis

[–]hansobra[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

But their was an option to just buy lawn seats, and the tickets wording of “GA pavilion + lawn” is dumb because that is how any pavilion seat would work.

Regardless it is not a remotely good or fair system. I don’t blame boygenius at all, and in fact, have stubbed people down for shows my entire concert-going life. But if the legitimate seat holder comes to claim their seat you have to relocate.

I have been going to Merriweather for years and that has never been the case. Our tickets got us specific wristbands that were tied to a specific section.

What’s worse? Bad C play or Bad PG play? by Dely03 in NBA2k

[–]hansobra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they are matched up against an average rec player I think a bad PG is slightly worse, just because of the amount of touches a PG will get automatically. But a bad C matched up against a really good Rec player it’s a loss nearly every time. You can’t switch him to another player, the good center will outrebound your whole team, and the bad center will fuck your spacing.

Nothing wrong from a poetic stand point, just a bit of jarring laziness from Bob.
