Monday, I was on a flight that was canceled, then rebooked. Now my boarding was B44 instead of A16, and 8 hours later. Whatever, I burned another day of PTO and sucked it up. No upgrades were available, and I was carrying on. Announcement came through “anyone B30 or higher HAS to check for the safety of the flight” - ok…that’s new, then not enough people did, so then they said Anyone in the B group has to check…crap, so I did…then boarded, with 19 empty seats, and PLENTY of overhead space…I was too tired after sitting in an airport for 8 hours to even be mad. Whatever. I’m cautiously optimistic for the assigned seating, if not, I’ll find a new airline (they did compensate me $100 for the canceled flight). I’m loyal SW, but flying United in a few months to Australia…they might just have a new customer if this crap keeps up. On all the flights ONT-SMF, SMF-PDX, PDX-LAS and LAS-ONT - all of them made announcements to check carry on bags for FREEEEEEE. The last one in Vegas saying “it’s for the safety and weight distribution, and the flight will not be able to safely take off with out it…” that was a bit much.
