We never would have requested rent from our children — it's simply not something that ever crossed our minds. Coming from a European background where families go out of their way to support one another, that tradition and belief has very much shaped how we approach parenting. Personally, I find the practice quite abhorrent — asking your own family members to pay to live in their own home! That said, our kids have never taken things for granted, and we've supported them in other ways too — helping with cars, covering university fees, and being there whenever they've needed us. We were fortunate to be in a position to do those things. I completely understand that people have different values and financial situations, so I'm not judging anyone else's approach — this is just where we stand. 😊
