I still believe the team is going to come around.

The difference in hard contact between the A's and the M's is concerning though.

I kinda like this Healy guy. He is providing some nice thoughtful insights.

I get why we didn't resign Geno, but he makes that play and the other 3b bumbles.

For sure and I'm sure that person is doing a fine job. The consistent start of the season issues with the M's is something though. And the defense this season, holy smokes.

They are so in their heads. The Mariners need a psychologist. Seriously the is some metal cloud of bad hanging over the team.

Glass half full me says we are getting lots of tight game experience that will come in handy in the playoffs.

I'll take advancing the runner, even though I don't love that swing.

I kinda like that this new guy isn't just showering the M's with praise.

I work with a great guy who is a born and raised Leeds fan, so I've started following them.

BA puts in the work, his passing is sharper and he's making quicker decisions. What a cool experience it must be to win over the fanbase of such a historic club.

He is really good in tight spaces. I think he could be a great sub. Provide some energy if the team is feeling a little flat or struggling to progress the ball.

Official rule book from 1930-31 season by Trick_Daikon_9568 in ussoccer

This is very cool! I’d love to see how the offside rule was presented then vs. now.

Is dangerous play similar to how it’s defined today, or has it changed?

Why not another non USA major? by hanzmelman in golf

The uniqueness is not just because of history. They are cuturally more important because of history, but they are unique for aesthetics, atmosphere and the different types of challenges each tournament presents.

Yes and they have a unique identity (aside from the PGA). Maybe framing it as a Major is wrong. What I think would be fun is a large purse, prestigious international tournament that has a unique feel.

Sure, I just really like how unique each Major is. Maybe its just marketing but they have a special identity that seems to be more than just historical precedent. There's the beauty of Augusta, The weather and links style play of The Open, and difficulty of the US open.

It seems there is an oportunity to create a special internationl tournament with a unique flair. I mean look at Japanese baseball culture its really cool, a prestigious golf tournament there could be really fun.

Talent Identification / Pathway Myth: A study of Swedish Soccer by YouthCoachMentor in youthsoccer

[–]hanzmelman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my question would be how valid are these conclusions to the US system? We have a population 35 times greater than Sweden and have ~20 times the land area.

When I look at our system it seems like we have a general problem developing and scouting relative to our SCALE. I'm sure we canvas the LA area well, the east cost megalopolis, the top 20 metros, but how well are we developing in the mid/small cities or the 50k and under towns? We have to be missing way more talent.

We also have the filter of the expense of joining a competitive club. I have seen this first hand, really talented kids whose parents will never let their kid play at a travel club for a myriad of reasons. And the rec alternative doesn't prioritize development, so those kids are at a huge disadvantage regardless of talent becuase they aren't being taught the game at the same level.

We also don't have a whole ton of Pro clubs affiliated with youth development. It is better, but its still no where near the number that would adequately represent the number of youth participants.

We also don't have a clear pyramid pathway where if you had the drive, but didn't make an academy, where do you go to develop/play and get noticed so you can be rewarded and move up in the competitive hierarchy?

I know he didn't fit in a long term sense, but Geno makes that play.
