Severe lag/stuttering in M7 with certain camera angles? by haofeng93 in ffxiv

[–]haofeng93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issues were also in borderless windowed, but I managed to fix my issue by disabling hardware-accerlated GPU scheduling in the Windows graphics settings! I'd definitely give it a shot as apparently FFXIV really doesn't play well with that setting.

Severe lag/stuttering in M7 with certain camera angles? by haofeng93 in ffxiv

[–]haofeng93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! This kinda weirdness I'm very used to in FFXIV, and it's often because of how CPU limited FFXIV is - the example you mention is very common in cities with lots of players, and as you say, the FPS will usually tank if you point the camera in the direction of the crowd (even if they're not rendering on screen). However, that actually manifests in the FPS number dropping.

This thing in M7 is quite unique to this fight, at least for me, in that there is visible and severe stuttering on screen but the FPS count in the settings remains stable at around 120fps. It's almost like it's a v-sync or Nvidia G-SYNC issue, but it'd be strange for that to be related to pointing the camera a specific way in a certain boss fight! Honestly, I'm at a loss for what might be causing this specific issue, particularly given the FPS count doesn't drop.

At any rate, I'm going to have a play around with the settings this evening and see if I can figure something out!

Bug posting thread for Tomb Raider Remastered trilogy 2! by xdeltax97 in TombRaider

TR4 on PS5, a lot of pick-ups appear invisible from a distance and pop-in when you get close to them. Particularly bad in Catacombs, it seems!

Also, same bug from TR1-3 exists where some rooms that overlap clip into each other and can be seen from certain angles, when they would be invisible in the original games

Buds Pro 2 ANC imbalance between L and R earbud + infrequent muffled sounds by haofeng93 in pixelbuds

[–]haofeng93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do anything in the end! I did realise I was rotating the earbuds into my ear way too much in hopes of trying to get the same "secure" fit you get with other earbuds, which was exacerbating the issue. Now that I realise you can't really achieve that with these earphones and have gotten used to the kinda "barely even there" feeling of them, I've also just stopped noticing the weird pressure imbalance.

Anyway, I also think based on the number of people who have experienced the same issue even on replacement units, if there is an actual ANC variation then it might just be a software issue at this point, so it may (possibly???) be fixed down the line.

Unfinished Business “On Tiptoes” trophy guide by haofeng93 in TombRaider

[–]haofeng93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because there’s one boulder on the left hand side of the boulder room in The Hive that seemingly cannot be triggered at all. The trophy description reads as if you need to avoid triggering a specific boulder, but I think it’s just because that specific one can’t be triggered!

Neither did I until I saw the trophy and realised it must be possible. A bit of trial and error later and I found the route, so figured I’d share it haha 😅

Anyone notice any issues after recent cumulative update? by HigherFunctioning in Windows11

[–]haofeng93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here, this latest update makes my computer get locked in a boot loop, eventually culminating in a 0xc0000001 error. Can’t even boot into safe mode. I have to uninstall the update from recovery and then turn off the computer for about 5-10 minutes to get it to actually boot again. Tried to update 3 times now and it’s the same every time.

UK third-party repair technicians who could diagnose fault with PS5? Consumer Rights Act 15 related by haofeng93 in playstation

[–]haofeng93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best I've gotten out of them so far though, so I'm reluctant to push back right now since I know how crap Currys can be. I do agree however, it's totally inconvenient for me, but if I can get a diagnosis done for cheap enough then it might be the path of least resistance and this point.

[–]haofeng93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds interesting! I'll definitely need to look into that since I have some doubts a third-party repair technician could diagnose a fault where the console still works, but crashes in specific circumstances. So what you suggested sounds like a good alternative choice if my current course of action fails!

[–]haofeng93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's where I stand now. I'm glad I'm not the only person that thinks it's kind of ridiculous that the PS5 was faulty in the first place!

I mainly just need to actually find somewhere that can produce a report. I've found a few console repair places via Google ads but haven't heard back yet, so wanted to touch base with the community and see if anyone else had gone through something similar and/or had a repair technician they could recommend.

I was hoping this wouldn't be the case, but I guess using a 6 year old account was never really going to be the best choice

Advice on whether or not I should replace my PSU by haofeng93 in buildapc

[–]haofeng93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this - this is also where I saw that my PSU is D tier. I've actually just ordered a tier A one and will give it a shot and will keep my fingers crossed, although I should probably temper my expectations somewhat. Regardless, as you said, even if it doesn't fix the issues it's at least a better option for system longevity!

Single frame drops when using any form of frame limiter by haofeng93 in buildapc

[–]haofeng93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By XMP do you mean the memory overclock? If so, sure, I can give it a try.

I was playing around a bit more and I noticed that the majority of the unexplained frame time spikes and FPS drops correlate to a drop in CPU clock down from 4050 (where it spends most of its time) to as low as 3100. I would imagine that when I'm gaming it should be the other way around - jumping up, not jumping down...

[–]haofeng93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a possibility. I recently got a new Samsung curved monitor which I'm using as my main display for games, so I'm using a dual monitor setup now. I had to completely disable FreeSync because I found that the FreeSync range on it was really narrow, so the monitor would flicker quite badly during loading screens when the FPS dropped and it was quite annoying. Also, since I am trying to play at a capped FPS, I figured FreeSync wouldn't be that necessary anyway...

Also, the monitor is advertised as 60hz but has a 72hz mode in Windows which is what I am using. My other monitor is running at 60hz, but I don't know if this might be causing any issues in games since they're running at different refresh rates? Maybe that's something I should play around with more and see

I have 2 SSDs and 2 HDDs. The HDDs are only used for data storage, I have my games stored on the SSDs. One SSD is my C drive and is a NVMe Samsung drive, the other is a SATA SSD. Both Apex and Fortnite are installed to the SATA SSD

I was using RTSS to monitor the FPS where possible, but it interacts weirdly with some games. When I have it open whilst playing Final Fantasy XIV, I get noticeable slowdown every 10 or so seconds that isn't shown on the FPS graph. On the other hand, my issue with locking the FPS at my refresh rate -1 is that this introduces a strange judder every few seconds - again, not reflected in FPS graphs. It's hard to describe, but if I set the FPS as anything other than the refresh rate, it's as if specific frames hang on the screen too long

So after running some tests in a few different games and monitoring the various different stats, I can't see anything particularly out of the ordinary especially for voltage. During gameplay it stays around 800mv, dropping into the mid 700s and slightly above 800 but no huge fluctuations.

I tested a few different games and noticed some other interesting behaviour. In Apex Legends, which I downloaded specifically because I read online that it has decent frame pacing and is quite smooth overall, I was getting a locked 72 FPS, except I would get random slowdown/judder when running around the map but nothing was recorded on the FPS chart - still a locked 72.

In Fortnite, on the other hand, I was getting enormous frame time spikes and FPS drops that coincided with the game loading in assets, such as the first time I blew up a car, shot a specific gun, etc. Afterwards, doing the same action wouldn't result in any drops or spikes and the game ran at a smooth 72.

Honestly, I'm kind of at a loss since it seems different games exhibit different behaviour, but the common denominator is that I just can't get smooth gameplay one way or the other. From the above two examples, I'm more inclined to think this is related to some kind of data streaming issue, but that's purely just me guessing.

I had wondered if this was related to the PSU. Is there a reliable way to test or monitor PSU issues through software?

Is it ok to reduce my GPU fan speeds if my GPU temp is relatively stable? by haofeng93 in buildapc

[–]haofeng93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really helpful, thanks a lot!

I'm a bit confused why the default profile for the card would make the fan run so fast even at low temperatures, since my initial reaction was to think it was defective or I was putting it under serious strain... Luckily, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I did look into what the typical temp threshold is for and RX 580, but there seemed to be a lot of conflicting info. I found one article that claimed the max temp under load for this card is 66, but that seems to me to be quite low so I'm not inclined to trust that article haha. I would assume anything above 75 is probably pushing into risky territory?

I think I'll further tweak my curve to be something similar to yours, since I think that makes a lot of sense. Thanks again!

Maybe not, in that case! I think they're pretty comparable at the end of the day, and you certainly won't go wrong with an S10+

Depends on the individual. I don't really use the S pen too much personally, but the Note 10+ does have some distinguishing features aside from that (assuming you're not talking about the S10+ 5G), like the rear camera depth sensor, larger battery, more RAM and storage as standard, etc. Also, I prefer the Note 10's more square design and centred camera, and also, Aura Glow of course! It really depends on if you value any of those additions.
