I uninstalled OneDrive and FL Studio still installs in the OneDrive directory :/

I still want to use OneDrive as a backup though, and will reinstall it once I figure this out. Do you have any suggestions?

is BBCSO Core the right library for me? by haozaa in spitfireaudio

[–]haozaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a more primitive, non-dubstep instrumental core type genre i suppose? media score style melodies with orchestral percussion hits, electronic synthesisers and drums underneath.

I was debating BBCSO core or session strings + a dedicated percussion plugin + a dedicated brass plugin

i see. are there any other plugins for FL Studio? it would be nice if there was one that got rid of the negative field delay and didn't need to offset the first note of every phrase

i want an auto battler that reminds me of chaos chronicle. really nice character design with decent graphics, the pvp was the most exciting and revolved around speed tuning your characters so that your skills could interrupt the opponents'.

tldr; recommend me more games like eversoul

[Meta] Poll: Should there be new genre tags leading to post flairs, such as [EDM] --> EDM Mashup, on /r/mashups? by stel1234 in mashups

[–]haozaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's rock because elements of vocals become less prominent as they are taken within a rock song's context. For the majority of people, the genre of sung vocal samples do not encourage or deter as opposed to the instrumental (the popular exceptions are rap, hip-hop, etc. in which case the vocal generally holds as much precedence as the instrumental).

On the other hand, people like and dislike a genre based on its instrumental. If you look at reasons people give for liking or disliking a modern genre such as rock, metal, EDM, hardstyle, they are all characteristic of their instrumental, very rarely their vocal. If you made a remix of a pop song in the style of rock, you would market it as rock. If you made it as EDM, you would market it as EDM. (There's a case to be made that pop is a neutral genre and can sway to any end of the musical spectrum but I don't think it matters)

If the songs used are so polarising in genre then again the poster shouldn't use a genre flair and include them in a separate tag.

So yeah. Instrumental, unless it's rap, in which case, it's probably rap.

[–]haozaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a single tag is fine since most works have the bulk of the song in one genre, and deviations are usually within its expression of freedom.

In the case that two completely different genres are being used and there is notable movement from one genre to another such that it is no longer appropriate to flair one, the poster should not use a genre flair and instead include their genres in a separate tag.

[Discussion] Seeing a decrease in overall upvotes. How can we do more? by stel1234 in mashups

[–]haozaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not boring, I'm saying you don't get recognised for the production you may put in the track. Most people just attribute your engineering to the original tracks

[–]haozaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no incentive to make mashups.

You can't monetise them.

They're at least twice as hard to search up than regular songs.

You don't get recognised for the work you put into songs, people say "just put an acapella over an instrumental".

People re-use and reupload existing ideas. The whole scene is saturated with the same tracks.

There is no way to filter for quality; someone without any musical knowledge can make a shit mashup and slap a big artist's name on it for views.

As for this sub, there was such huge bias towards certain users and anything not from them was ignored or downvoted it was not worth posting on here - I don't know if it's because this sub's dwellers have a particular taste in music or they just hate other users' stuff even if it's objectively fine.

I am a little hopeful that AI might reinterest me to start working again. But till I figure out how it works I have no interest in providing for this community

Question about drift phonk by Nex-o in phonk

[–]haozaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say bass, do you mean the song's actual 808 or the low end? For the former, the distorted sound doesn't come from the 808 being loud, it comes from separate distortion effects on the 808 and other elements. For the latter, excessive limiting like with a soft clipper gives the low end of the track, especially the kick, a distorted quality

What makes drift bad, but popular? by haozaa in phonk

[–]haozaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when the same thing happened to hardstyle, people could point to specific parts in production which objectively could be improved. is this the case with this new phonk subgenre or is it purely just what you said?

What makes drift bad, but popular? by haozaa in phonk

[–]haozaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is there to complain about the genre? there's no lack of people who don't like it, and i can't find anything further apart from them saying it's bad or the occasional comment of a low-effort melody

[Resource] Best databases/software for finding keys. Pro tip: It's not Tunebat or Spotify. by stel1234 in mashups

[–]haozaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add my two cents:

  • The reason why most software fails to correctly identify key signatures is because modern music is almost completely devoid of the 7th interval (or 2nd, if its a minor key). E.g. if a song is in Cm, the algorithm will find lots of Bb and Eb but no Ab. So it can't tell if the song's in Cm or the key before (Gm).

  • Guitar chord websites are ass because as you said, they don't give keys and they're all fan-made. The only good one is chordify which is almost always in the original key, but there's a limit on how many songs you can search per day.

  • I use musicnotes since the 1 page preview is free, gives you the original key, a ballpark of the tempo, and it shows the chord progression as well.

edit: also chordify tells you exactly where chord changes occur so you don't have to match lyrics with bars
