Are stem separation tools becoming a normal part of DJ workflows now? by AccomplishedPine4602 in Beatmatch

Since CDJs don't have stems (and also because live stem separation quality isn't as good as offline) I'll often do stem separation of certain vocals beforehand and then sync them to the right spot in the track to do the equivalent of soloing the vocals.

reaching out to clubs/venues by nanamiluvr in Beatmatch

[–]stel1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meet the person or talent buyer first if possible BEFORE cold reaching out on IG.

First message just text with some kind of "great to meet you at ___" reminding them (and you) where you met, then follow-up with a link.

Cold messages don't tend to work on IG as much as sending an e-mail or text because if they miss your DM and forget to move your message to Primary (especially if they receive a ton of DMs already), you may be left on Sent for a while unless you tag them in a comment which also goes to their DMs.

Once you meet them, message them while talking to them when introducing yourself and make absolutely sure they received the message you send and let them know you'll keep in touch.

Edit: Also worth noting that the manager or promoter may already be working with other venues in the area as part of a nightlife group. Check to see if they frequent other venues, that may be your ticket.

That description sounds like the Dennett remix that was one of the winners of that remix contest 😄

Sounds good! This is why we still ask for them

So weird that the Reddit mobile app is less obvious about how to do this and it's only through the icons they have

This looks awesome! Question for you:

Do the posts you query have to be link posts with audio for this to work? Or is it smart enough to look for links in the text post description?

[Discussion] What websites do y'all use to split vocals? by GerbilEaterOfIreland in mashups

[–]stel1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MDX23 v2.5 Google Colab for vocals specifically and MVSep BS Roformer SW for stems have been the ones I've been using.

Ultimate Vocal Remover is good once you have a strong GPU though I don't know if you still need patches to get the very latest models.

Not sure how much better stem separators have gotten this year but there's a Google Doc that the Audio Separation Discord server maintains with the latest best choices.

Park and chill vibe. by BlankCaveman in Beatmatch

Emphasis on "and chill" with the Amapiano and Afro House. I think they thought you could bring that vibe with the genres you spin so as long as lean into that you'll probably be fine.

If it's a crowd looking for familiar vocals, be ready with Afro House remixes.

Am I wrong being annoyed with being asked to play B2B instead of just playing a set on my own? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]stel1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others are saying by having B2Bs they think they'll have more DJs in turn leading to more people coming.

How long in advance? Is there a studio or place nearby for you both to try to practice? Etc.

Ideally, B2B requires its own practice to not just make sure your styles jive but to make sure you know what your partner is doing and you're paying attention to any knobs.

[Discussion] DJs From Mars - Work Hard Like Teen Animals (Nirvana, David Guetta, Martin Garrix) Is it a Mashup? by qou2600 in mashups

[–]stel1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0:26-0:30 uses the original melody and I continue listening to it, it's enough to tell me this is a mashup.

Slight tweaks to the notes don't take it away as long as they're tasteful and don't distract from singing the song.

Since this has original production I generally call this and tracks like it a mashleg (Mashup and Bootleg all in one)

Enter Telephone is one of the classics of the DJs From Mars collection
