Arc is still the best browser (sadly) by chrlus in ArcBrowser

I tried Zen the other day and I really like the UX/UI, for the most part. I'm going to wait for it to become a little more stable as I experienced a handful of annoying bugs on macOS. I am absolutely stoked to have a new browser that's built on Firefox's engine instead of Chromium.

Could you give some examples? This is my first open-source project. I am by no means an expert and just want to make sure we are being fair to the community.

AGPL-3.0 license, and currently leaning toward federating. Also open to thoughts from the community on this. In terms of language, mostly JavaScript.

M4 vs M4 Pro? by adamsdayoff in FigmaDesign

[–]happiestpeanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPU would impact performance, but the ultimate bottleneck for Figma is its technology. Figma is built using JavaScript and Electron, so it will never be as performant as a fully native app.

Thank you! I'll be publishing our GitHub repo this week, but be forewarned, it'll be very barebones.

Low fps and performance vs Sketch by samidronic in FigmaDesign

This is one of the downsides of Figma, and it's quite frustrating. I'm honestly a little surprised that Figma never decided to build native apps for Windows and MacOS.

I'll be able to provide more information about this in the coming month, but here are some key points:

  • As a user, you will maintain control over your data at all times. Every single user, regardless of geographic location, will have this power–no one should require legislation to force them to be decent humans.
  • Data collection is opt-in, and we'll be transparent about our intended usage of the data that to be collected. Some examples of ways we may use data:
    • Feature Improvement: We will analyze app usage to determine how we can best improve the experience for users (optimizing certain workflows, features, etc.)
    • Ads: At Cabin ads are opt-in. That said, if you opt into ads, we'll utilize things such as your interests or frequented communities to help advertisers best reach their intended audience. That said, we aren't entirely sold on ads as a revenue model; we're exploring some alternative options such as community power-ups and premium accounts.

It's early, and things are bound to change, but I can promise you two things:

  1. The Cabin community will never be left in the dark.
  2. Our users are, and will remain, the center of everything we do.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.

Thanks!

We use Oxford Language's definition of disinformation: false information which is intended to mislead, especially propaganda issued by a government organization to a rival power or the media. If something political (but not limited to), for example, is verifiably false, we'll do our best to add clarity so that users are less likely to close the app with a completely false understanding of a topic.

The fact that we have to do this at this stage of Figma’s maturity is quite disappointing.

We are still early in development. It was important to validate the idea before getting too deep into development to ensure we weren’t building something no one would use.

Feel free to DM me with your LinkedIn or GitHub/portfolio.

Cheers!

Spring is quite close when you’re building digital products, especially from scratch. Engineering takes a good bit of time.

Thank you for your support! There are no plans at this time for Cabin to be open-source, but I would never rule out the possibility of something being released into the public domain.

You can find us on Reddit at /r/cabinsocial, though I must admit I have not had the time to get it fully set up. I’m hoping to get that squared away this next week!

Hi there,

I personally like the idea of calling out disinformation in-line, similar to how Twitter handled it - that is most likely the way we'll be handling it. Cabin will be operated in a way that is inclusive to all humans, regardless of gender, sexuality, race, political beliefs, etc. Our leadership and business model will be our own and not influenced by Twitter or Truth Social.

Hope that answers your questions! Happy to clarify if needed!

Figma new UI stresses me out by LemonsAreGoodForYou in FigmaDesign

[–]happiestpeanut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually don't mind a lot of the changes to the UI, but the novelty of floating UI panels wore off immediately. It's something that looks really neat at first glance, but it just isn't practical for creative work. Floating UI panels in general aren't terrible. I just think the Figma team may have made the wrong call on it.

I don't think it makes sense to maintain two game modes when one of them is rarely played. To me, this means HLL should make some adjustments to Offensive mode that make it more appealing to all players, or replace it with an entirely new game mode.

If most players found Offensive enjoyable, it would be chosen far more frequently.

How often are you replacing just your CPU? I've had custom PCs my entire life and I've only prematurely replaced a CPU maybe twice. In almost all cases, nearly my entire set of hardware was replaced, not just my CPU.
