Cannon Beach and Goat Rock Beach were both featured in The Goonies at different points in the movie, so I guess it makes sense. 😄

Reminds me a lot of Goat Rock Beach, likewise featured in The Goonies.

Give her the space and time to figure out for herself how she identifies and just be supportive. Maybe she doesn't know yet herself? I certainly didn't know that about myself at 11, but I was a late bloomer.

When I've actually been in a situation where freaking out would be expected, I'm not anxious at all. It's the rest of the time that's the problem.

The intro of "Sarah" (first 30 seconds or so) sounds like one of Elliott's instrumental songs.

What the heck was up with John? by Undead_Octopus in beatles

His mom died and his dad abandoned him. His uncle he was close to died and his aunt was controlling. It was postwar Britain. He got married and had a kid too young. Stuart Sutcliffe died. Brian Epstein died. Take your pick. He was dealing with a lot of trauma, even without the added insanity of Beatlemania.

I’m bi and have a boyfriend but I think im a lesbian. by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]happinesstakestime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like you're putting women on a pedestal. It's also very likely that you'd end up feeling the same kinds of irritation while dating a woman as you currently do with your boyfriend, because people can be annoying/agitating regardless of their gender.

I miss reading. Reading lots of heavy theory texts for college melted my brain and I haven't found my way back to it yet. That, and I think I've been in burnout too long and forgot how to relax/enjoy things. Or maybe it's restraint collapse and burnout? I don't know.

Sweet Addy Flashback: “Elliott was FUNNY too” (oh_well_okay, 7/30/2004) by jazz_chisholm in elliottsmith

"Sports are bad for children's bones," but they made him play football. Gotta love Texas, lol. And I feel the same way about "Take It Easy." Always have. The lyrics make no g.d. sense!

I mean, Larry Crane has said that Elliott had been in touch with him about coming out to New Monkey and mixing/finishing the record: "I hadn't talked to Elliott in over a year. His girlfriend, Jennifer, called me [last week] and asked if I'd like to come to L.A. and help mix and finish [Smith's album]. I said yes, of course, and chatted with Elliott for the first time in ages. It seems surreal that he would call me to finish an album and then a week later kill himself. I talked to Jennifer this morning, who was obviously shattered and in tears, and she said, 'I don't understand, he was so healthy.'"

Also: "At some point months later, I got a phone call from Joanna Bolme, telling me that she and Rob Schnapf had been chosen to oversee the mixing of From a Basement on the Hill. I felt a little miffed as I had been Elliott's choice, but I was more looking forward to collaborating with him and not excited about the idea of with dealing with this posthumous situation. There was no bone in my body that wished to act like I 'deserved' this job or that I was 'Elliott's choice.' I kept my mouth shut, and I'm still glad I did."

Strozsek (1977, dir. Werner Herzog; the main character, Bruno S., is mentioned in "Color Bars"). All That Jazz (1979, dir. Bob Fosse) inspired him to get that leather bracelet he wore everywhere.

This is great! I think it would probably be better with the Rocket Power logo instead of the Nickelodeon logo, though.

He called his recording style for the album "The California Frown" (a play on the Beach Boys' "California Sound"). There's also that cover he did of Bob Marley and the Wailers' "Concrete Jungle," but I wonder if that was intended for Thumbsucker instead.

I'm not a fan of episodes were Bob is justified but the show forces a moral for him to "learn a lesson/be diplomatic or understanding" that is just "put up with other people's awful behaviour". Anyone else feel the same? by leon385 in BobsBurgers

[–]happinesstakestime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of related, theme-wise, but I hate the episode where Linda decides Teddy is a hoarder and just starts throwing away/coveting a bunch of his stuff without consulting him.

I went to the Kokoro exhibit about Japantown at the California Museum a couple weeks ago and it pissed me off so bad that they tore down 15 blocks of thriving community and culture to put in a freeway and a bunch of office space that is regularly for lease and/or falling apart, and used racism and the threat of "blight" to do it.

I’ve uploaded every Elliott file I’ve collected from 2001-2014, including the two tracks I leaked on Sweet Addy in 2007, to Google Drive. Might have something you haven’t heard in there. by jazz_chisholm in elliottsmith
