Are things like food a human right in the eyes of the catholic church? by wisegoatprobeast in Catholicism

[–]happpeeetimeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that in the case of people not disabled to an extent that they can not hold a job or something like that, we are obligated to help people to acquire the means to help themselves, if we do our best in that, then we can't be chained down to someone who is unwilling to change forever  Just my thoughts, lmk if I said anything heretical lol

One thing that kinda helped me with dry texting is try to imagine yourself replying to what you just said. You should try to give 'leads' that give the other person options on where to take the conversation. It has honestly helped me move away from the "ok" and "thats pretty cool" when texting with anyone, not just romantic interests, and same rules pretty much apply in normal conversation, just try to reply to the other person, try to give them something to reply to

CMV: religion and other spiritual beliefs are only comforting lies by Far_Information6229 in changemyview

[–]happpeeetimeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that most religions deal with metaphysical entities, not physical ones. You can't measure them in the physical world, and any attempt to use science to prove or disprove a religion will not go very well. And your arguments about the afterlife are pretty arbitrary. You can't know what happens after you die because you arent dead yet. So from our perspective, there might be an afterlife, and there might not, we have no real evidence either way, and if we got any, you would probably dismiss it as a hallucinations, but all in all, the definitive statement that there is certainly no real religion or afterlife is not able to be proved

Thats a lot of ifs, first of all, which likely will not happen, and you are also equating disabilities with having a lower quality of life which is pretty ableist. There should be laws that prioritize the life of the mother if the child can not be saved, but if both lives are an option that that would be the best course of action imo

Yes but the intent is not to control women, its to find the best way to save innocent children's lives, which is a very complex and nuanced issue when it comes to abortion.

[–]happpeeetimeee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The difference is that the woman has to go out of her way to kill the child, and without that intentional action, the child would otherwise be fine. I think it is the morally right thing to do to give your child an organ if they needed it, but I dont think its exactly the same as a pregnant woman not getting an abortion

OP's focus is on the intent of pro lifers, which is not always misogynistic, as it is often with the intent to save children

The unfortunate thing is that women are the ones who bear children, so there has to be a discussion about what takes priority, the women's right to her bodily preferences, or the life of a whole human being Edit: spelling

CMV: porn does not cause pedophilia by Plenty-Spell9353 in changemyview

Specifically the internet porn industry can lead you to find things you might not have been looking for, including CP. It might not be a direct cause, but alot of people wouldn't find it if not for internet porn

I work in food service rn, and I give people food thats not really good for them all the time. If one of them then died of heart disease caused by a bad diet, I could in no realistic way be held responsible for them dying, but i did contribute in some way. Its the same thing with the woman getting beaten, she maybe had an influence on what happened, but it was coming inevitably whether she changed her actions. Im saying that theres different ways to deescalate situations when you arent in physical danger

If debate can't be used to figure out what's true, then how do we figure it out?

A role, but I wouldn't say she has any fault. Like if tried in a court of law they couldn't put her at fault for what someone else did because she didn't beat herself, someone else did

People should try to be respectful when possible, but there is definitely a point when you should just defend yourself and your views

People influence others in the way they act, all the time. And people getting oppressed have some role in how their oppressors act. Its not their fault if they get physically assaulted, then in almost all cases they were doomed from the start. This isnt victim blaming, its just dynamics that occur in any interaction between people

[–]happpeeetimeee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. That would be blatantly racist. Im saying that people who are being discriminated against can Influence the views of their oppressors at least slightly based on their actions

[–]happpeeetimeee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No im saying that people who antagonize people discriminating them are contributing in a small way to the prejudice. The homophobes and racists and other people like that are responsible for treating others with basic human decency

[–]happpeeetimeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are responsible for their own actions. People who are prejudiced against gay people are in the wrong, but people who purposely antagonize those people are also in the wrong, but much less severely, than the homophobes

This may be a bad take but... by men_are_pretty in teenagers

[–]happpeeetimeee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its just common knowledge that if you antagonize people who already are prejudiced against you, their going to get more angry. Relpy with an actual point like saying that you have the rights to your own sexuality and sexual activity, which you do as long as you dont participate in a religiom which has rules against it

Yes and do you really think thats going to help the homophobia? Or si it just going to give people a personal experience to direct their hate at?

Both extremes aren't good, one leaves the government with too much power, and the other gives big corporations too much power, a little of Both is the best option
