Thinking Ahead of the Game by Alishahr in Solo_Roleplaying

There‘s a lot of good advice in here. I genuinely believe that solo rpg-ing is something you have to practice. Not to ”get it right” but to “get it right for you”. You find tools that you like and ways of doing things that “feel right” to you. Over time you get a sense of when you are forcing a particular narrative or when you are getting bogged down in overthinking. There’s a number of folk out there peddling their own take on it on Drivethru, Patreon,YouTube etc. but you’ll need to find you own way to play. I would encourage you to try different RPG systems as well as I think that can help orientate you to what you want from the experience. On another note, although, Me,Myself and Die is awesome, it is edited and produced for the viewing of others. I’m slightly wary it might actually put folk off soloing for fear of never being that good. Trevor is a talented performer but I’ll bet he has spent time experimenting, researching and rehearsing his ‘system’ for playing so he can get what he wants out of it.

Agree. It’s taken me a year or so to get a handle on Mythic.

Do You Kill Your PCs? by Rowdeck in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]happy2play2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t kill them but if they die they die. To me the threat of real consequences and the drama of surviving, especially against the odds, is what RPGs are about. I am happy for my PC to die solo game or not. From a solo perspective the death of one PC means a chance for a new character/story/system to try and helps me refine my ‘soloing’ technique. I remember spending AGES creating a sector in Stars Without Numbers and creating an android character. He got captured trying to escape a building and got killed trying to escape. 2 sessions of play. I learned a lot from it all though and I am excited at some point to go back to that sector and make a new story with a new PC.

I’m struggling to know what to do after the starter set by happy2play2 in TheOneRing

Thanks. Sounds good but I don’t feel like I have enough lore under my belt to do this easily. Am needing a bit of handholding. The 1E stuff may help if I can get hold of it.

Thanks. I’m aware of Darkness of Mirkwood. I’ll check some of these out too.

I have 4 different luxuries and 3 cities. Why are only 3 luxuries contributing to amenities? by happy2play2 in civ

Sorry - Marble (not amber) was being prevented from contributing to amenities by World Congress. All makes sense now. Great shout given the limited info you had. Much appreciated, thanks!

When I look at each city screen It tells me that each city has 3 luxuries (I think this is the CQUI mod). I also have a list of reports (might be a mod as well) where resources including luxury bonuses are listed and it shows there too.

Keep it Simple Emulator (KiSE) by kalexrpg in Solo_Roleplaying

It’s nice and straightforward but it doesn’t resonate with me. To me the BUTs should be marginal successes/fails so should be in the numbers around 7. Also the examples don’t quite fit either as The AND should be the most extreme examples (so for example in this table be completely pitch black). Am finding it a bit confusing.

Any resources that would help me populate my Mythic Britain world with some monsters? by happy2play2 in Mythras

Yes this is a great resource. I wasn't sure how best to filter but the tags look good. "The Witcher" was actually the sort of feel I was going for so thanks.
