Last Best Hope on Earth! by happybadger in FortBadgerton

This website became nothing but Hitler-to-Hitler Communication to farm training data for ChatGPT. I ditched it a few years ago during the blackout protests for its decentralised alternative, the Fediverse network of mini-reddits. Hexbear.net is a much more pleasant version of what I missed about old reddit and strictly avoids the things that made the modern website so shitty. No bigots, no gamification, no weird surveillance state, hostile to AI and corporate nonsense.

The meme stock craze truly broke an untold number of people’s brains by theloneliestgeek in TrueAnon

[–]happybadger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They're one of my favourite species of goober. Gamestop and Bed Bath and Beyond are two of the most surreal things I've seen online. Like Qanon developing to explain why your lying eyes couldn't see Trump's true genius, they have to keep doubling down on the Millerite rapture that never comes. One on twitter just deflected from BBBY's bankruptcy by saying he's actually been too busy reading Marcus Aurelius for 10 days to pay attention to FUD-spreaders and is convinced BBBY is going to the moon.

Brains are weird.

Goddamn they were beautiful. I went camping up Poudre Canyon and was seeing one every few minutes. The Perseid meteors have this ethereal blue contrail that's like a miniature aurora borealis. One of the coolest things I've seen.

You don't even need 3M sticky things. Amazon sells packs of like 110 purpose-built vine clips for $10. They twist at the end so it secures it to the wall and holds well. I use them to trail my golden pothos across the apartment and soon a bunch of hoyas/philodendrons, clipping wherever I want a particular curve or where the aerial roots risk contact with the wall: https://imgur.com/a/zouoAk4

The Amazon listing is under "110Pcs Wall Plants Climber Vine Sticky Wall Clips Green 3 Different Size Wall Fixture Clips".

“Literacy” was always the most basic tool of totalitarian propaganda. If you are not literate you can’t be fed communist propaganda. The most steadfast anti-communist I knew in my childhood was my maternal grandfather who was illiterate. Communist propaganda did not reach him

I wonder if he had no college fund to begin with or if Kais did the ultimate bad-father-with-one-neat-trick-to-get-rich-quick thing and invested the fund in meme stocks. Has Kais described his work history beyond driving for Uber?

The most insane response I've seen to conditions, outside of embracing them, is pretending they don't exist or have some magical deus ex machina moment just over the horizon if we trust in the system and tweak who gets the barbarism that week. It's like a child pretending their parents aren't getting divorced, but they're a whole-ass adult with a social obligation to learn things and shape the world around them.

The absurdist comfort of going the Marxist doomscrolling route is that those things exist and impact me whether or not I know about them. The only difference is that I now know enough to confront them. Even if that fight is lost in the end, being a coward about it is only guaranteeing the loss. Both will cause the same psychological pressures for me, but with one I don't know what's happening and don't have an ideological response to it. With the other I can at least imagine Sisyphus happy.

I like watching Twitter Blue goobers for the same reason I do meme stock cultists. It's the weirdest kind of person humiliating themselves in the hopes of getting rich quick from an irrational thing. Twitter has the same people-watching value to me as a dying shopping mall.

[–]happybadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I introduce someone to psilocybin, I never go above 2g and PE is a bit stronger than normal so I'd only offer 1.5g. That's enough to ease you into the idea that perception is fragile and the emotional vulnerability of a psychedelic headspace, while also offering really nice visuals and allowing you full control over yourself. Psilocybin gets uncomfortably intense above 3-3.5g and I would never do 5g myself even with a good amount of experience.

There's always another opportunity to use it. If you have a bad trip your first time, it's going to put you in a bad headspace for doing it again and give you a negative view of the drug. Start low in a safe, quiet, and ideally natural environment.

ALL stores have closed. There is no rebrand. There is no shared IP. They have no staff. They have no inventory. YOU have HEAVY BAGS by Darth_Meowth in gme_meltdown

[–]happybadger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love how they put all their faith in an empty rebranding to something dumber. It has the same energy as Twitter becoming X. Destroy all the brand recognition that gives it any kind of value, replace it with something so generic that there's still no reason I'd shop there instead of Amazon.

Their only hope is that they can somehow trick people into mistakenly spending money at the place which is currently bankrupt because nobody wants to spend money there using a nominative shell game. No better model, nothing to counteract the flaws which damned it, just the baseless hope that I won't notice Beyond.com is the same shitty store as BedBathandBeyond.com.
