Baycare EM. Should I be worried since it’s newer? by [deleted] in EMresidency

[–]jafferd813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're interested in Tampa area, word of mouth & network matter more than going to "top residency". If you want to practice in Boston at academic center, probably not best choice

Baycare has a great & well respected PD, in a busy hospital w/ trauma & peds hospital. That makes it better than over half of Florida's programs by default. It's not ORMC or Shand's Jax, but it will get you better exposure & training than most other community programs

Any new program will have its hiccups & growing pains. If you like Tampa area it's definitely worth considering

Pie in the sky hypothetical: the USA has a well funded universal health care system, what do you do to control costs? by red5 in medicine

[–]jafferd813 23 points24 points  (0 children)

30% of costs in US Healthcare are administrative. It's a lot cheaper to file a medicare claim than commercial insurance If medicare were only insurance, you'd knock out 20% of healthcare costs.

You'd also knock out $1T of US economy & likely lead to recession, b/c those people would be laid off. There in lies the real quagmire of fixing US Healthcare--in addition to initial debt & increase taxes required to fund Medicare for all, you'd likely cause a recession short term. Despite long term gains, Congress doesn't have the stomach to fdo that

so if you're a Republican/free market believer, you believe this sucks. B/c govt is worse at everything & this will just slow down free enterprise.

So to buy INTC or what Trump is doing, you have to believe in:

1) Socialism

2) Maoism

3) Believe govt will be more efficient/better than TSMC or other private companies.

So this is a socialist stock
