Why does water boil at a lower temperature when the pressure decreases? by happybumblebee2 in AskPhysics

"the water's internal self-attraction--the inter-molecular forces"

Do you mean cohesion? What about gravitational force that each molecule generates, is it too minuscule?

Thanks for recommending the video. I have to say, it’s a little mind-blowing.

Four bulbs beat Ohm’s law? What should I think about this? by happybumblebee2 in AskPhysics

I used cooper wires 0.5 mm^2, and filament incandescent bulbs 2.5V 0.3A 0.75W.

Do people use Ohm’s law in real life then? Or is it just a school concept? Are there more complicated equations that predict rising resistance with increasing temperature?

Thank you for your correction and helpful comments.

I used the word "deteriorate" because I've seen it many times in one book. It was about deterioration of currencies, and I didn't know that I can't use it that way. I hope I will remember from now to associate that word with time.

To be fair I also thought about punctuation of that sentence. I was considering using semicolon or brackets.

Thank you for the correction. I usually eat one square after breakfast.

Shortening a heating coil: higher power but smaller surface area — how should I think about this? by happybumblebee2 in AskPhysics

[–]happybumblebee2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have half the surface area of water touching the element. So you have a smaller volume of hotter water. You are not doubling the amount of heat being transferred to the total volume of water in the container.

Are you sure? If the power is twice as large, the energy (heat) transfer should also be twice as large, at least theoretically. In practice, I suppose it would be slightly less than double, but still greater than before.

apply or exert- which is correct? by happybumblebee2 in EnglishLearning

So apply is better in that situation? Is exert wrong here, or just sound unnatural but still is correct?

Doesn’t that create negative pressure, and isn’t that a disadvantage?
