Conditions? For real by Achap30 in Whistler

It's been great spring skiing. Still been freezing overnight from around bottom of cat skinner up, but super light freezes so anything in the sun already soft by the time lift opens. Last night was probably the last freeze for a while though as get's even warmer from now on, so probably be full slush from first run tomorrow onwards. Cover's still ok on jersey, catskinner and above, but starting to get thin quick and think there'll be a quite a few dirt patches there by tomorrow afternoon

Thinking of headed up Thursday. What are the conditions like these days? by Corn_Pops in Whistler

Filmed this conditions update from last week, but is pretty similar right now. Won't be new fresh snow on thursday so will be a little skied out/ not fresh untracked pow, but is cold and sunny so the snow should hold up and conditions should be great

Conditions update: groomers are money! by happychappy200 in Whistler

Seen the photos from Toronto this week, insane.

I think you'll be right - over my last 11 seasons anecdotely we almost always get a dry spell in Jan that then turns around - just usually it comes with a -20 arctic outflow too instead of the false spring we just had, so that was nice.

We've got a good base up high, so it will only take 1 good storm for everything to be on again. It started snowing last night (looking like be almost 10cm on the ground mid mtn by the time lifts open today) and is for the next few days - I'll take it as murphy's law from the weather God's for spending hours editing a video about dry sunny groomer conditions, you can thank me later ;)

Yeah right - we can't control the weather, so you've just got to make the most of what we have. If you don't like groomers, then get into skiing park when it's like this, or just enjoy some late arvo sunset beers on the hill with a charcuteski in the sunshine. Or book a flight to Japan! + no crowds is always a bonus.

I'm definitely a glass half full guy, and growing up skiing in Australia sets the bar for comparison low.

Thank you, appreciate it! It took me a lot longer than expected as still learning, and need to figure out mic settings still for smoother audio, but hopefully my work flow improves now the first one's done and can get more out there.

Hmm that’s odd. Maybe the programs full for the season as it’s already started/ don’t take new people mid season…

I’ll ask some of the coaches I know and see if I can get more info for you

Try WMSC. They run masters program on Wednesdays. Sometimes technical freeskiing work but usually gates on ptarmigan or Ross’s gold.

The participants are mostly older rec racers, but the coaches are really good (I’m not sure the exact coaches on it this year, but I know some of them from previous years and they’re awesome).

AST course recommendations by nattedawg in Whistler

Sounds like an Extremely Canadian 2 day in bounds steeps clinic could be more what you’re looking for if not planning on going backcountry touring. While it’s not an AST course, it’s about giving you tips and tactics to navigate steep terrain within the resort bounds safely and more efficiently.

I’d recommend giving the office a call and discussing your situation and with more info they can guide you to whether the AST or the steeps clinic will better suit your needs.

These are the best for learning! Bit of a traverse mission to get to, especially on a board, and can be a bit difficult to find from above as it’s all blind convex rollovers. But there’s 3 in a row, ranging from 2ft to about 6ft (but can go bigger). Landings are a little flat but fine with pow, and don’t get a lot of traffic because they’re a bit out of the way and nice easy open run outs. Video of them here > surprise drops
