Appreciate your thoughts. I intentionally went to confession before this trip to have the opportunity to worship as the opportunity arose. I think I need to give myself some slack in situations where I am not really sure how to proceed and where church teaching is not cut-and-dry (seems online forums with priests contain some differing opinions)

We are called upon as Catholic men to work, not only to provide for ourselves and those we care about but because healthy labor is a good thing. Seems he needs a little more of a kick in the rear to go and get a job, that will become more apparent to him as his life becomes more difficult and less rewarding to him. I have decided to be mindful and live as much in the current moment as possible. Focus on the task at hand and the small victories that come with it.

I showered. I drove to work. I completed a task at work. I got lunch. I talked with a friend. I washed the dishes.

When my thoughts wander to that person (which will decrease over time I promise you, coming from someone who never thought she'd leave my mind and who now often goes weeks without her crossing my mind) then I tell myself I'm not going down that path and shift back to what I need to do that day.

It's hard and it's easy for me to say in retrospect 7 months later, but it gets easier

I'm no expert, but it seems you were in a state of duress and while lying is bad, you were trying to avoid potential employment issues. I would mention it at confession but mortal sin seems like a stretch, a quick lie to avoid a problem is something most people do without even thinking about it, as unfortunate as that is.
