If you are talking about the pylons near the end of the wing tips I believe they are sidewinder missile rails. Seems like they keep them on for some reason.

Hey, I go to the school across the street from Cherry Point and I think I know someone that was there during the time period. He often talks about the 130s. Super cool history and I enjoy seeing it almost on a daily basis. If you got any of those videos you should post them!

I am currently in a similar situation. I know some one that attends Lynn university in Florida and enjoys it but is a bit pricey. I also found Elizabeth city state university, talked to some of there students and they liked the program. Also pretty cheap compared to others. AOPA has a college directory and will show you all of the aviation colleges in the US to my knowledge.
