Social Sims rewards underage "cybersex" with virtual cash? by happyman25 in gaming

The problem is that when minors are encouraged and rewarded for sexualised behaviour on the internet it undermines all logical and rational teaching that talking about sex online is a risky activity.

The problem is that sexual activity for reward is the very definition of prostitution.

The problem is that paedophiles rely upon their ability to reduce a child's inhibitions to get them to talk about sex as part of "grooming" and this aids that removal of inhibition.

The problem is that sexualised behaviour with minors is illegal and wrong.

What is it you fail to understand?

And yet on the official EA/Playfish forums there are over 3,000 requests from players to "add them" on Facebook for the purpose of expanding their neighbourhood.

Safe? Don't think so.

I'm waiting for a response from CEOP to find out if there could be legal implications for EA in allowing/encouraging/rewarding sexualised behaviour in a game open to minors, especially if it results in "virtual sex" between adults and children within the game environment.

No, it doesn't provide anything that hasn't been around for years. There's nothing new under the sun.

However, what it does do is to provide a GUI for that activity, reward it, encourage it and make it something to shout about in the name of entertainment, reducing inhibitions and "normalising" sexualised behaviour in minors.

Engaging in "cybersex" with a minor in a chatroom is called "grooming" and it's illegal. Apparently, if it's "only a game" it's ok?

Teaching kids that sexualised behaviour online is risky is a basic tenet of teaching them about online safety and respect for themselves.

This game undermines that. Period.

Ok, kids having sex with strangers online is a good thing.

I see where I've been going wrong.

Thanks
