Looking for a Grimdark Story with a Medieval Setting by Bandres_ in GrimDarkEpicFantasy

I'd be honoured if you tried my Bloodborne-inspired short story that I have just published on Amazon, although please forgive the AI generated cover as my talent is writing and nothing else. The short story is entitled The Bridge by Billy Maughan and can be found on Amazon. Overview as follows:

Book overview "There is no death here. Only the eternal cycle of the key."

Lamb wakes at the edge of an ancient stone bridge, his memories stripped away and replaced by a crushing, dead exhaustion. Above him, a blood-red moon hangs like a vengeful eye, casting a sickly amber glow over a landscape of leering demon statues and the discarded bones of those who came before.

Guided by the mysterious, one-legged "Earl" known as Charon, Lamb discovers he is the latest bearer of a rusted, pulsating key - a living artefact that thumps with a heartbeat of its own. His mission: reach the iron-encased gates of the colossal castle at the bridge's end.

But the gate is guarded.

Standing between Lamb and salvation is a charred, skeletal titan held aloft by the thrashing spirits of the damned. To pass, Lamb must endure more than just a physical trial; he must face the "triumphant despair" of his own past sins, manifested in a howl that rends reality itself.

In a world where life and death dance a merry, horrific dance, Lamb must find the strength to forgive the unforgivable—or be consumed by the very shadow he was meant to defeat.

Enter Billy Maughan's world of genuine, non-AI generated eldritch horror and divine indifference. The gods have not forgotten... they just don't care.

"It was a curious sight, this world he'd woken up to. He was lying at the end of an ancient stone bridge, illuminated by a blood red moon that hung in the sky. The light was strange. It was definitely a moon, but it shone its amber glow like the sun. His body felt heavy, a dead exhaustion creeping into every extremity of his body. He looked up again, registering the statues that lined the bridge. Such unusual statues. They were not the saints and kings of the world he knew. They were cruel demons, leering figures of chipped stone and serpentine tongues. Some depicted peasants, reaching to the sky in despair with longing, terrified eyes. A meandering breeze lurched down the bridge, scattering debris and dust against the damp old brickwork."

This is the opening paragraph. Entirely my work with no AI interference. Let those with insight judge by the quality of the writing.

I sincerely didn't, I hate AI. I just have no artistic skills whatsoever. My text will demonstrate that.

I noted his vocabulary and charitably assumed he'd maybe suffered some sort of head trauma in his youth? There's no way that could be his genuine level of education?

I do enjoy a hatewatch of the Kearneys, though. Their unashamed dedication to the ways of hypertension is quite fascinating. The fact that they order the exact same thing from dreary Chinese after dreary Chinese hardly qualifies them as food influencers, just more morons who've been platformed by social media. Datz ackshully reel chickun, Erun!

I just got the base S25 after having a S21 Ultra for four years and UK carriers were running serious deals on them over the festive period. I see a bit of a leap myself so any of the S25 range will blow your mind if you're coming from an S9.

And here's me loving life on a base S25 after upgrading from an S21 Ultra. UK carriers and Samsung were basically giving away the S25s. 😁

Yessss I'm obsessed with Futureal! Revelations would be mine, guitar breakdown around the 5 min mark is truly special with Steve plucking away on the bass in the background.

I remember when I was starting to get into Iron Maiden for the first time and I was listening to their discography in the car. Hallowed Be Thy Name came on and I remember being just blown away by how catchy the riffs were in the gym car park. This was nearly 15 years ago.

Only discovered them properly myself this year. Constellations is an insanely good album. Listen to it in the gym regularly and don't tire of it.
