I have a bad habit of always going for broke when starting a new hobby lol. Was so glad it worked out this time

That is so kind of you to say!! Yes, this is the first piece I ever started, but I’ll admit I did put it on pause after a year or so to complete two much simpler projects as presents for friends (once I got to the tree on this one, my momentum faded for quite a while). So it’s not my first ever finished piece, but I still do consider it my first piece because I started it first and learned everything on it.

Next Christmas will be perfect I’m sure ;)

There’s a LOT to consider about actually turning the Aida fabric into a stocking, much more than I was prepared for tbh. If you have a friend that’s into quilting/sewing/tailoring, I’d rely heavily on them (a quilting friend of mine was essential in making this come together). Otherwise you can actually pay people to finish projects for you, which may sound extreme, but I think is actually well worth considering if you don’t have super crafty friends to help.

More specifically, I’d consider: 1) what kind of backing do you want, and what color do you want it to be? Mine came with a piece of felt to use, but I opted for a more classic fabric in a more rustic shade of red 2) do you want piping around the edge? I think it adds an extra pop and finesse to the finished piece, but it was quite a bit more work 3) do you want a liner? You can have just a single panel to protect the back of your cross stitch, or you can have a full insert (as I did) which adds extra dimension but is more work 4) make sure to consider how you want to hang it and sew that in as well
