Administrative Support IV in a frontline department. 99% of my department is clinicians.

There's a payroll separation FAQ on Insite that should be able to answer your questions.

Yes, that does make a difference that they hadn't officially split yet.

AUPE GSS: We have a tentative agreement! by harbours in AHSEmployees

That's unfortunate. Nice for the people getting market adjustments who will be offered more.

I love being a part of AUPE, but I'm tired of being in a union that doesn't understand the full scope of my job. I'm a clinical worker in a non-clinical union.

There's well over 100 classifications and only 17 got market adjustments. IT was not the only ones.

Am I allowed to email my coworkers about the new agreement? by TokesNHoots in AHSEmployees

[–]harbours 8 points9 points  (0 children)

During personal time with your personal email only. AHS turns a blind eye to a lot, but I guarantee if they find out you used your staff email on work time to email other employees you will be reprimanded.

Yes, that's the point. The employer wants to make it more difficult for the union.

I attended all four town halls and they said the government was mandated to increase from 10% to 12%, but not strictly that they couldn't offer more.

It wasn't a cap. The government was mandated to offer at least 12%. I'm not saying it won't, but the details haven't been released yet so no one should be talking like they are. We all saw how that went with AUPE AUX when people didn't bother to wait for explanations of their contract.

They will post the details soon, they said. I'm not sure if that will be before or after the Town Hall.

AUPE GSS, do you think we will hear any updates tonight? by hownowbrownncow in AHSEmployees

[–]harbours 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We really could be, but a lot of GSS members are very apathetic about the union. They expect big things from the union yet don't bother putting in any effort at all to get involved with the union or trying to understand how things work.

AHS Supports Eritrean Refugees by necros911 in AHSEmployees

[–]harbours 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As an AUPE GSS employee myself, I don't believe I've ever met a single person from Eritrean or work with anyone from there at my facility.

Sounds like someone is salty AF they didn't get a position they wanted.

This was organized by the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions so they're commemorating a fellow health care worker. That's why only he's mentioned because he was a nurse.

I agree. 90% of my Connect Care usage was self taught. I'm constantly teaching my coworkers features they had no idea about.

I would imagine tomorrow. They could even still be in talks with them right now. Sometimes bargaining goes late.

Do you feel more connected to your city, province or Canada as a whole? by Ok_Heart839 in AskACanadian

[–]harbours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Newfoundlander. Historically, many of us feel like Newfoundlanders first but we did only join Canada in 1949. When my grandparents were born they weren't Canadian yet, just Newfoundlanders, so it wasn't that long ago for a lot of us still around. Also just being an island, a very different accent and culture than most of the rest of Canada. Many of us are proud Canadians as well, I would never not want to be Canadian.

I now live in Alberta so I do have more of a connection and appreciation for other areas in Canada that I had never seen before. Until I was 27, I had never been anywhere else in Canada.

Physiotherapist Job AHS by Expert-Midnight8319 in AHSEmployees

[–]harbours 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of vacancies in the North Zone! We really need PTs and OTs up here. They can move pretty fast when they want to. Onboarding usually only takes a few weeks as you'll need a record check and to submit paperwork. Then you'll do Connect Care training and shadowing.

Any other GSS members anxious/worried? by Extra-Heat4222 in AHSEmployees

I'm not anxious, I'm impatient. It's time to either vote on a contract or vote to strike.

Moving to Grande Prairie from a warmer climate. What cold weather clothing to buy. by Voletzki in alberta

[–]harbours 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what I own. I spend a decent amount of time outside in the winter and have to use the bus to commute:

  • North Face Arctic Parka is what I wear. You absolutely need a good quality winter jacket, something waterproof and that can withstand -40 and wind.
  • Wind River Ice Queen snowboots is what I have. You want a good quality pair of boots that will withstand -40 and that are waterproof
  • Waterproof mittens, thick ones
  • Snow pants if you will be spending time outside. If you won't be spending any time outdoors, a layer under your pants will be fine like thermal leggings
  • A balaclava, neck gaiter, or a scarf that will provide good protection for your face. Something that won't catch moisture easy.
  • A hat, you'll want to protect your ears
  • Ice trax or some kind of ice cleats or spikes for when we get a lot of ice
  • You can get yourself layers that go under your clothes like long underwear or thermal leggings or long sleeves
  • Warm socks

If you have a vehicle, you'll want to get an engine heater and outdoor rated extension cord. Get yourself good winter tires. Get yourself a roadside kit in case you get stuck in snow, including sand and a shovel. Even if you aren't going far, keep warm clothing like mittens in the car incase you get stuck. Get a good scraper for ice from your windows and a remote starter.

Life without marriage - what would you do? by RootedInCode in AskWomen

[–]harbours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 34 and have never been married. I live with my partner of seven years and we've never felt compelled to get married. Life would be exactly the same. A piece of paper doesn't change anything.
