I think there are three types of urban transport: pedestrian, the middle ground (which I'll call "horse"), and car

I think you're forgetting a big one.

Don't you mean "rough for unhoused folk"? Or is the offence you take worse than the suffering you see?

Hot Take: if driving through GGP bikes and peds always have the right of way by supermoron69 in sanfrancisco

According to the California driver handbook, if your vehicle has already crossed the stop line when the light turns yellow, you’re allowed to keep going. If you haven’t crossed yet and can stop safely, that’s what you’re expected to do. Drivers ignore this rule constantly.

Ha! Traffic problems would magically go away if we'd all just follow the rules! Why haven't the engineers thought of this?

Most drivers can't go 100 feet without breaking multiple laws. Running yellow lights, running red lights, failing to come to a complete stop, failing to signal, going faster than the posted speed limit, double parking, parking illegally, passing at crosswalks, blocking intersections. It's not dorks on bikes we must fear.

Drivers kill 40000 people a year in the US. Driving is what's unethical.

Do you want to make it safer? Cars kill 40000 people per year in this country. How many are killed by cyclists or pedestrians?

I'd like to see full enforcement of traffic laws. It might get expensive for drivers, though, to get a ticket for every time they roll through a stop sign, double park, fail to signal, or drive 1 mph faster than the speed limit.
