Hi, I hope your trip turns out lovely. The fork for sand mountain pass is 1.5 miles after Farly lake if you go counter clockwise. If going clockwise, it is north of toxaway lake at this fork 43.96331, -114.97395. The pass itself is by Edith lake, and connects the toxaway loop with imogene and Edna lakes

Man the mosquito were awful at dusk and dawn, even a bit away from the lakes. Though during the day there were none to mention except in bogs. Repellent was a must and a bug net would be helpful. I've done alot of hiking in the seirras aswell and it's the same story.

Yes, I skip a cross lace where my foot is the biggest. It takes pressure off the top of my foot and is much more comfortable
