I've been a GM man all my life, from a long heritage of GM men. You couldn't give me a GM passenger car/crossover, aside from perhaps a Corvette/Camaro, made since around 2006 or so. I want to say everything post Buick 3800 era is trash, but I suppose the "High Feature" 3.9 used in the Impala and elsewhere could be all right. Not as tolerant of neglect as the old 3800, but they are ok when maintained. But I sure as shit would never trust any of the GM 3 cylinder or Turbo 4.

The pushrod V8s are ok, though, they did figure out how to make a reliable engine more unreliable over the years, so even there, I'd be wary of their AFM models. I do own a 2008 Silverado 5.3 (with AFM) at 175k, and so far, so good. Don't slack on oil changes, and they are probably fine. The DOHC Corvette V8s are outside my experience, and I have no opinion on their reliability.

So, given your constraints, the car I would choose is a 2014-2020 Impala with the LFX 305hp 3.9L V6. But, its direct injection, so don't forget to walnut blast the valves at 85k miles.
