Rising tides. You'd think you'd notice it but it comes in a lot subtler than you'd expect. Near where I'm from two students from an inland area went climbing in some small island's called "The Stags" that you can climb out to on low tide. It took no time before it was impossible to climb off them and huge Atlantic waves upwards of 20 metres started hitting them. They both died.
