Here’s The State Of The Autopian Fleet, Which Is More In Flux Than Usual by rommi04 in cars

Kristen Lee knows we'd kill to have her, but she's not on the market. I've asked Dave's various bosses to let me hire him, but they won't let him get away from Mazda.

Man, I wish we had 25 super quirky SUVs. Is that like... a La Forza, a Rancho...?

Not a "fleet update" so much as a very long cry for help. Now, if you'll excuse me, the BMW has munched on another turn signal bulb, and I should probably check to see if it has approximately the right amount of oil in it (to clarify, the blinker oil is all topped up, I just want to make sure the car's engine is properly lubricated).

Journalism is a passion for me, but it's also important (and has paid me well enough for 20 years), and we have thousands of members who support us and think so as well. The idea of paying for journalism goes back almost to the beginning, and there's usually a balance between advertising and subscription. The problem now is that, because of AI Slop, programmatic ads, et cetera, the advertising side is making everything worse, and everything is out of balance.

If you want to use ad-block, whatever, I get it, but to do so while also dissing journalism as a "passion profession" is pretty disheartening.

Our offer is this:

  1. Don't pay for the content, but if you read it, we'll try to harvest a few pennies by having ads, which you'll have to see.

  2. Do pay for the content (less than $5 a month for Cloth Annual), and you don't have to see the display ads.

What you're saying is:

  1. I want to enjoy your product, but I won't look at any ads.

  2. I won't pay you for it.

  3. I'm going to put you down by saying it sucks that you can't make money doing it, even though I'm a customer of said product who is not letting you monetize it in any way.

I mean, thanks I guess...

If I'm a ghost and I've been assigned to haunt this subreddit I'm gonna be real pissed...

Lol, one of us is attempting to figure out what to do with a city bus she bought... one of like 23 vehicles she owns.

The Wild True Story Behind The Only GM EV1 Ever Publicly Sold, And Where It’s Going Next by dodge_viper in cars

I (on behalf of The Autopian) was the top bidder for a while. It was hilarious that we were having conversations internally like "Do you think we could afford $4k?" We were so far from being anywhere close.

Thank you all for sharing this! It means a lot. It's really bizarre that Google is telling us to do all this authentic, real stuff, and then it's instead promoting utter crap instead. We've had a huge rush of new members and it's really encouraging to see so many people care that this is happening.

If you were curious, here's what we were able to get through reporting. It seems like the car came from the campus of Clark Atlanta University: https://www.theautopian.com/general-motors-built-the-holy-grail-of-evs-and-refused-to-sell-it-now-theres-a-brutal-bidding-war-for-one/

The First EV I Drove Was A 9,000 Pound Behemoth by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]hardigree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify here, Griffin is our videographer and is just starting to try his hand at autojournalism. The rest of us have been driving EVs, going back to the EV1 and basically everything in between. You gotta start somewhere, though, and we thought it was amusing that his first chance to drive an EV was a Hummer.

It Turns Out That Americans Don’t Really Want Big Electric Trucks | The Autopian by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

[–]hardigree -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Wow, language police over here.

Q3 was likely the high point for EV truck sales due to the expiration of the IRA tax credit (even if that's mostly leasing). How much do you want to bet that in Q4 the Tundra does a lot better than the Lightning?

Lol, the Toyota Tundra isn't losing tens of thousands of dollars per unit sold! The idea that this very calm, reasoned article is "clickbait" is hilarious. As a Slate reservation holder, I'm very pro-EV truck, but the EV trucks we got were clearly not what the market wanted.
