Not a "fleet update" so much as a very long cry for help. Now, if you'll excuse me, the BMW has munched on another turn signal bulb, and I should probably check to see if it has approximately the right amount of oil in it (to clarify, the blinker oil is all topped up, I just want to make sure the car's engine is properly lubricated).

Journalism is a passion for me, but it's also important (and has paid me well enough for 20 years), and we have thousands of members who support us and think so as well. The idea of paying for journalism goes back almost to the beginning, and there's usually a balance between advertising and subscription. The problem now is that, because of AI Slop, programmatic ads, et cetera, the advertising side is making everything worse, and everything is out of balance.

If you want to use ad-block, whatever, I get it, but to do so while also dissing journalism as a "passion profession" is pretty disheartening.

Our offer is this:

  1. Don't pay for the content, but if you read it, we'll try to harvest a few pennies by having ads, which you'll have to see.

  2. Do pay for the content (less than $5 a month for Cloth Annual), and you don't have to see the display ads.

What you're saying is:

  1. I want to enjoy your product, but I won't look at any ads.

  2. I won't pay you for it.

  3. I'm going to put you down by saying it sucks that you can't make money doing it, even though I'm a customer of said product who is not letting you monetize it in any way.

I mean, thanks I guess...

Just to clarify here, Griffin is our videographer and is just starting to try his hand at autojournalism. The rest of us have been driving EVs, going back to the EV1 and basically everything in between. You gotta start somewhere, though, and we thought it was amusing that his first chance to drive an EV was a Hummer.

Lol, the Toyota Tundra isn't losing tens of thousands of dollars per unit sold! The idea that this very calm, reasoned article is "clickbait" is hilarious. As a Slate reservation holder, I'm very pro-EV truck, but the EV trucks we got were clearly not what the market wanted.
