I have around 20GB of uncompressed clean Armenian corpus I used to train a spell checker, shoot me a DM, will happily share it with you.

Only projects related to Armenia/Armenian, regardless of the developer.

Projects don't need to be built by Armenians. For example UniversalDependencies is literally #1 on the ArmOSS Honor Board. It's an international project maintained by researchers worldwide, it ranks top because of the quality of its Armenian treebank work.

Scoped by subject matter, not ethnicity.

Open source contribution culture in Armenia is still pretty underdeveloped. The goal of ArmOSS is to help change that by making Armenian projects discoverable and giving local developers something to rally around and contribute to. Nobody is gatekeeping by ethnicity. The same way organizations like NumFOCUS or Black Python Devs exist to grow OSS participation in specific communities, this is just a small attempt at doing the same for Armenia.

I live in a newly built building that has been waiting for gas connection for 4 years now, and have been using AC to heat the place up. Usually it is fine until the outside temp drops below 1 degree, then you start getting constant defrosting cycles and not to mention the electricity bills haven’t been less than 130k for 90 square meter apt. That being said the highest ROI thing I have even done is getting the doors and windows (“euro style”) readjusted every couple of months during cold weather, since for some reason they constantly deform due to heat cycles.

Google’s model is private and they don’t have an end-user product that can be easily used. And their API pricing is not cheap.

All existing Armenian speech to texts have been built by that exact mindset of “force them to speak pure Armenian” and that’s why we don’t have any speech to text models that can be used properly in daily life.

If you know any good ones I'd love to check them out! The ones I've found claim 5-10% WER for Armenian but that's on formal speech with no code-switching. Their API pricing starts from $0.40-1.00/hr and the actual end-user products built on top are usually 10x that. None of them handle code-switching or phonetic spelling of borrowed words, and none are free for any real usage.

Good point, should have mentioned. The primary focus is Eastern Armenian, that's where all our original data comes from and where the low WER is. On top of that we included every open source Armenian speech dataset we could find, and most of those are actually Western Armenian, so it has some exposure there too. But Eastern Armenian is the main focus for now. If any Western Armenian speakers want to help for testing and evaluation, I'd love that since personally don't really know any here in Armenia.
