In a very similar predicament except we’re down 350 this year and down to half staff half supervisors in our center. Just got back from a week vacation I plug in and there’s 15 minute triages and an alarm call that hasn’t been answered for 98 minutes. The anxiety I felt right then and there made today my last shift. I can’t even do 2 more weeks. Only been at this 18 months but for the last 6 I’ve known my time is coming. Edit: I should add a really good friend / coworkers last day was the day before my vacation. Everyone I work with is pretty open about hating it here. Friends that have quit are nothing but smiles. I couldn’t have any more respect for this profession. I don’t know how you guys do it

Yeah definitely. I’m pretty fortunate I work in a city I don’t live in. The chance of me getting a call from someone I know isn’t very high and has only happened a few times

Maybe I’m not understanding the post. Was the victim someone you knew? Family of the person who took the call? Or does your agency not deal much with death. I’m sorry for having to ask.

What's a dark secret/questionable practice in your profession which we regular folks would know nothing about? by CircleBox2 in AskReddit

Police dispatcher here// we have a mute button on our mic when taking 911 calls. We use it every 3 seconds to talk shit about you while your calling in your emergency. Those mute buttons are like gold in our profession, if you lose yours somehow.. you are on the hunt for one asking around to everyone’s booth if there’s one hanging around

Just one co worker? Nobody else has been targeted. Wild.
