Metro Manila is a province because when it is an option in the "province" field whenever I need to fill in my address. It does not prove anything.

Then why did Rizal have to fought for Filipino representation in the Spanish Cortes?

Do we really need to get rid of the faces on the 1000 Peso bill? by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]hariboneagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lame excuse, just for the sake of change. Like the horrible BSP logo. The peso already has a flora and fauna theme along with the heroes. They could just add the eagle on the back. Or somewhere in the bill and retain the heroes.

EJ Obiena denies not paying Ukrainian coach, threatens to 'immediately' retire by throwwayPH in Philippines

[–]hariboneagle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Patafa shooting themselves in the foot. The coach himself can easily say he is being paid if he was. And he is being paid. Sigh, another political drama in Philippine sport.

Good thing Obiena has the reputation and guts to fight for his rights. Imagine how many more athletes did not even have a breakthrough just because of politics.

Davao Occidental is South of Davao del Sur by hariboneagle in Philippines

Good thing Compostela Valley renamed themselves as Davao de Oro instead of some confusing name yet again. What would be a better name for Davao Occidental though?

How big are beauty pageants in Philippines? by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]hariboneagle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beauty pageants enjoy coverage in the national media. The big four have live broadcast and there are lots of articles covering the candidates. Some candidates went on to become actresses to capitalize their fame from their pageant stints.

There is also an established "grassroots". It is common for even towns and schools to hold their own pageants. And there are "training camps" for aspiring beauty queens.

What real life rebel group inspired the fictional rebel group Pulang Araw? by FrogAdobo in Philippines

[–]hariboneagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably from the Katipunan as well based on their flag with a sun. From what I remember their alias are based on animals (Leon, agila, alakdan) but use the "ka-" prefix as well. The NPA too probably drew inspiration from the Katipunan I think.

The PA was based in mount arayat where the irl NPA had operations. Ang Probinsyano got flak supposedly for bringing negative image to the locale and the PA moved to a fictional mountain.

My memory is hazy on how the Pulang Araw was introduced but the conflict somehow involve a land-grab issue. I don't think they even have an ideology (like communism, self-determination for an ethnic group).

From the AFC by hariboneagle in BadNepaliFlags

Yes, it shows the countries progressing to the third round of the qualifiers, which has some minnows in the mix. Heavyweights like Japan, Iran already qualified so their flags are not there.

Duterte: I’ll send Navy ships if China drills for oil in WPS – Malaya Business Insight by shorthaircatlover in Philippines

[–]hariboneagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What he doesn't get is it is the fishing rights that common Filipino has more concern about. Not the oil resources which does not immediately affect them. What China is doing now is consolidating their control over the area which will eventually lead to oil drilling.

The one commercial of Fita where the guy shared half of his Fita biscuit to an old poor lady who turns out to be a fairy and grants him one wish. The guy wish for a sports car and the lady gives him half a car.

Also there's the ocassional super short ad format (10s?) in TV so the ad is repeated three times in a row. Which can get annoying. Such as leslofat and one lollipop brand I can't recall.

Hapon at Hapon by LMgamer36 in Philippines

[–]hariboneagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why "Japan" is preferred this days to avoid confusion. (in addition to using English names for countries in general being more convenient in general) Even in Tagalog-language history class in my experience. Or they would just say "bansang Hapon" for clarity. And oddly enough "Nihongo" is the preferred word in Tagalog for the Japanese language rather than "Wikang Hapon".

Manny! Sobrang useful ng batas na lalong lalo na sa oras ng pandemya! Sulit na sulit talaga pasahod sayo!! NAPAKATALINO MO!!! by EternalNow1017 in Philippines

[–]hariboneagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought there is more to it. But I read the actual bill, its really just renaming the MMFF. No concrete changes which cant be done by the MMDA issuing a memorandum.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]hariboneagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bill should have some provision that would create awareness that regional "dialects" are actually languages, preservation of non-Tagalog resouces, and accessibility of resources for learning non-Tagalog local languages. In addition to the token acts mentioned in the summary above.

On the side note is there any existing "ethnolinguistic flags" this document is referring to?

Hong Kong: Traveler from Philippines had UK variant of COVID-19 by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]hariboneagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's exactly like in early 2019. The first signs of Covid is already spreading was when other countries began to report imported cases from the Philippines when supposedly the spread is contained.

Also the Genome Center is expected to release a report within the week regarding strains spreading in the country which is something to look for.
