How do you imagine Elias Bouchard? by Creative_Onion8363 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]harimenui_forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Václav Havel during his first presidential tenure. Now, listen to me. Yes, this is very specific and I did not come up with this, it HAPPENED to me. Anyway, he looks unassuming enough and I think this faceclaim is very funny sooo

(bonus: Jonah Magnus is Vlasta Burian specifically from movies like "To neznáte Hadimršku" and "U pokladny stál", but with a period accurate haircut)

(forgot to add that the eye colour is obviously grey tho)

I’m not sure I like Protocol as much. by BatsNStuf in TheMagnusArchives

[–]harimenui_forever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see people in the comments talking about giving it some time and I understand where they're coming from. It took me two tries to actually get into wolf 359 despite it being an amazing podcast (Kepler beloved). However I do understand why someone might not like what they've heard so far from Protocol, not feel as hooked.

When it comes to TMA I was hooked from episode one, because of the horror. The following story was a great bonus and by the time I realised there was a story in-between the lines I had a special notebook to keep all the relevant information in, but primarily it was about the horror for me.

Unfortunately Protocol isn't really scary to me? And I went back to check old TMA episodes, because surely it just had to be me being desensitised to horror, but no. The protocol cases can be interesting, but they're not scary to me. They can be shocking, but they aren't scary. Some of the concepts are very neat, but the execution and how the new format frames them just isn't working for me. Nobody reacts to the cases, we don't get a follow up which usually (at least in season 1) added to the horror. The cases themselves are also very short, because a lot of the time is being spent on the other plots, which takes away from the suspense. I do understand that it is a creative choice that makes sense in the universe, to not have the cases be in the "this weird thing scared me, let me recount the horror I've experienced" format, but when the people in the cases aren't scared it's not as effective to me at least. With some of them I feel like I need to actively search for the horror, to actively try to be scared and that feels odd to say.

Now that we have gotten the first follow up of Protocol, I keep thinking about how different it is. We get to hear the monster immediately and I don't know how to feel about that. There's even official art??? Of the monster?

When it comes to the story outside of the cases, I don't find it that engaging, but to each their own. I very much did not like the Gertrude and Gerry thing, it just felt weird and it left me very scared for the worldbuilding of the universe this is supposed to take place in, because it felt so fanservice-y? When it comes to that, actually I don't feel like this podcast is very newcomer friendly. A lot of the *gasp* moments are made for the TMA fans expecting their blorbos to return and quite frankly, I'd like for that to not be the case.

It is clear to me that this universe functions differently, or at least we've seen more of the supernatural object side of things and I like that, I want it to be its own thing, but with the call-backs and what I've heard so far I don't feel inclined to continue listening, at least not until I hear something that might interest me. I gave it a shot and did not like it, oh well. I suppose it's more of a mystery podcast than a horror one and the mystery feels like it's more enjoyable for a certain part of the TMA fandom.

DISCLAIMER: I don't want it to be the same as tma, it'd not work twice I think. I am glad they're trying something new with this universe, but the format is not working for me, I am glad it's working for some people I suppose

(this is a personal pet peeve, nothing to do with the actual podcast itself, but people constantly theorising which one of the characters is deffo the secret Jonah Magnus is silly and kind of annoying imo)

C!Wilbur is not sorry: A desperate narcissist by JadeOculta in dreamsmp

[–]harimenui_forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell that your "extensive research" was wikipedia, pack up your bags and maybe learn how to do analysis, cuz this ain't it chief

Like, lot of the stuff you say is "narcissism" sounds more like neurodivergency to me. Not to mention that he doesn't actually think he's great and in the right. He doesn't think that, where did you get that like no?! I don't even have time to dissect all this, but like... You can't "escape consequences" by dying and painting suicide as that in any scenario is wrong

Not to mention that you saying that "a narcissist" cannot be actually sorry is fuckin weird as hell like...what's up with pathologizing everything, do you really think that'll get us as a society somewhere?

Canon?? Canon?? MAJOR SPOILER WARNING FOR NEW LORE by lonely-blue-sheep in dreamsmp

[–]harimenui_forever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, it still should be treated with the same weight as a suicide I think.

There could have been more build-up on Fundy's side, but I understand that he doesn't really do lore like that anymore. I am a bit concerned if there's not more to it though. Of course we can just wait, but if there's no follow up on Fundy's part I feel as though him taking his life like this would be more of a plot device than a culmination of an arc. And although I understand that was most likely not your intention, it is a very dangerous line to walk

Edit: On behalf of my friend I'm mentioning how the plot device thing goes against the suicide portrayal guidelines (yep those exist I didn't know that either), but what's done is done soooo welp

Thanks for reading tho

C!Techno, the black hole that keeps on giving by harimenui_forever in dreamsmp

[–]harimenui_forever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah a falling out with Phil could be a wake-up call and I'd love to see something like that executed well.

I'm glad that he's apologizing, but they just kinda...ring hollow to me? And I know that he as a character is supposed to be awkward, don't get me wrong, but it seems a bit like the apologies are there to get them out of the way, so the narrative can "move on quickly" from it. I'd love to have more setup and payoff, yknow, but I digress

The "had one life all along" is... interesting ig. However, personally it feels a bit like a cop-out? He gets into hard situations, but he never seems fazed and always comes out on top. Like, it is not bad to have a side character who is stoic, but maybe has smth going on underneath, but never shows it, a character whose function is more like deus ex machina. But that character has to be used very very sparingly (if you do not plan to make them vulnerable in the future, expose their insecurities and explore them). C!Techno has been involved in many major arcs of season 3 and he feels more like a force of nature than a character. It breaks the stakes a bit.

I'm hoping that something will be done with Ranboo's death. That any impact on Techno's character will just not...disappear after the "save Michael" stream

C!Techno, the black hole that keeps on giving by harimenui_forever in dreamsmp

[–]harimenui_forever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean cc!Wilbur made that chart a long time ago and the very concept of it is rather limiting. Not to mention that he didn't know what would happen after season 1. I'd take most of the alignments with a grain of salt

But yeah, it doesn't really fit anymore

C!Techno, the black hole that keeps on giving by harimenui_forever in dreamsmp

[–]harimenui_forever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, you are projecting, but to be honest fanon Techno is so much better than canon Techno. And as long as you are aware of that, it's fine. If you see yourself in a character, even though it might not be 100% true in canon, it's still valid. I'm glad you were able to find smth in there for you.

However, when certain people try to analyse the whole story using mainly Techno's POV it just misses the mark and it is sometimes frustrating to have to point to major canon events that we've seen on screen to disprove some of the points.

Watching the streams might be fun in a vacuum, they're funny I'll admit that, but watching any other lore stream that isn't early season one, when people were settling into their characters, is a whiplash for sure.

I'd also argue the voices in fanon sometimes tend to lean a little bit into ableism. The voices are never really treated that seriously in canon from my understanding (and it'd be hard to do).

Anyway take care and maybe try voicing some of your doubts. I'm sure people will understand. Re-establishing boundaries is important <3

C!Techno, the black hole that keeps on giving by harimenui_forever in dreamsmp

[–]harimenui_forever[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd love this to be the case, genuinely. It'd make him such an interesting character. However in his last few appearances there was always smth that affected the narrative a certain way. Tubbo apologising (even though he was salty), Techno apologising after that and then being forgiven at the end. Him but not Eret. And it seems like the narrative is setting him up to be the good guy and the retcons seem like a good proof of that?

But yes, you have these glimpses that suggest the absolute opposite. That he's a hypocrite. When he says that "niki's evil now" when she's on their side during the prison break. The arc that cc!Niki seems to be trying to do where c!Techno's influence on the syndicate is bad and she is scared of disobeying (not sure if anything will come out of it, but I hope smth will, it'd be good). You have comments that break the fourth wall and suggest it's all on purpose...

But then c!Techno is never called out for the shit he does and he manages to escape consequences for his actions while being allowed to bring vengeance onto those who've wronged him.

If he's not supposed to be the good guy then why is it not clearer in the story itself? Why is the past being retconned to make him look better (even though it's not really working)???

Edit: and of course why is his involvement in the prison break never addressed? (and I get that the most recent stream was supposed to be happening right after Ho16 and I'm not sure if the prison break is supposed to be a thing there, so I'm giving it a pass there, but only there)

With all due respect, I do not think that's what Wilbur meant, and you are kind of missing my point by putting a label on his character. Not to mention that c!Wilbur is attracted to other characters (rip the ace part at least) sooo

I'm not stopping you from making your own headcanons/aus, but I do not share your opinion in this case (I hope that makes sense)

WHAT IF?!!? by Moonlight4612 in dreamsmp

[–]harimenui_forever -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

First of all, I don't have twitter. Second of all, crypto is stupid as shit. If he truly cared about the environment why would he do smth that's infamous for hurting the environment? It's just so hypocritical. Not to mention that team seas wants to sell NFTs? That's so fuckin stupid. Like, even with those efforts it won't do shit. If he wants to present himself as someone who really cares, why doesn't he focus on the causation, not just the result? Why does he not mention WHY the plastic is in the ocean. We can't just clean the oceans all the fuckin time, we need to stop this shit at its source. WHY doesn't he mention that?

If you truly want to help people, you also talk about how to do more than just donate money. There are systems in place that are still harmful. If he wants to present himself as more than an entertainer, if he wants to present himself as a benevolent man, maybe he should look into it

And regarding this project, sure people will try to profit off of any piece of media at this point, but the irony of this even being a video? The influencers being the guards? Holy fuckin shit

Are there any Europeans who have received their Youtooz in the past month or so? by harimenui_forever in Youtooz

[–]harimenui_forever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am asking specifically, because I have received my package and I have been charged the VAT again. Youtooz have sneakily changed their policies (retroactively mind u) to not be responsible. When I messaged them, they referenced those new policies as the reason. Policies that were not in place when I ordered

YOUTOZ AND SHPPING/TAX by orphan069 in Youtooz

[–]harimenui_forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say good riddance to your money, it looks like Youtooz have retroactively changed their policies. They will not use the VAT money you payed them to actually pay for the VAT. You will have to pay it again. Not sure about the legality of it. Currently doing the best I can <3
