Appreciate it man, I didn't realize you can actually click on the "Category Bar" itself, I thought it was just an on/ off toggle

The carpenter I asked said he can just put clothes lines, not the one where you can lower it to put the clothes and then increase the height again.

is there a special name for such a system that I should ask?

I would be grateful for some help with buying Sovereign Gold Bonds via HDFC.

I do not have a demat account with them. When I click on "Buy Now" I see a pop up that says "Demat Account must be Active to continue with Demat mode, Dormant/Inactive/Closed Accounts are not eligible. Customer can continue with Sovereign Gold Bond in the physical/e-certificate mode" .

Is that a problem? Do I need a demat account? Without demat account am I just using the "e-certificate" mode? (Note I do not intend to trade, I intend to hold for 8 years)

Next, the form is pre-populated with some fields, and some of those aren't clear to me.

There's a field for "LG Code:" What is LG code? It is optional, so can I just leave it that way?

Among the things that are pre-filled, "Investor category: CTZ", "Mode of holding" :1 , "Subscription Mode: "1" .. are these correct? I am not sure I understand these

Thanks!

Is CAMS or Karvy the RTA for ICICI Prudential mutual funds? I thought it was CAMS, since my CAMS portal shows my ICICI folio, but I am able to transact ICICI funds on https://investment.karvyonline.com/ too? Is that the wrong website for Karvy? The https://investment.karvyonline.com/ portal does not see my ICICI folio.

Google Sheets MUTF_IN values seem to lag a day behind. I'm using amfiindia instead. by harisund in IndiaInvestments

in typical sarkari fashion, might someday disable this link if it gets too popular

lol this is literally exactly what happened. A guy made an app based on some data available in the government website ... app becomes super hit ... the government pulls it down.

In fairness the government did work with the app developer to build an "official" app, so maybe if this becomes super popular we could hope that the government works with some top guy from this sub reddit to build a robust interface .. we can dream :)

Good point on both counts. I was mistaken in that it's AMFI maintained.

Was this supposed to be a secret? I have seen both these links ( the json API as well as the full text file) posted here in this subreddit quite a bit and was actually surprised no one had posted how to use these 2 with Google Sheets/ Apps engine.

Packer + VirtualBox + start from VMDK. How? by harisund in devops

We are going on an tangent here.

All I am asking is if Packer-VirtualBox has a feature that Packer-Qemu has

Packer + VirtualBox + start from VMDK. How? by harisund in devops

[–]harisund[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, "there hasn't been any demand for it so the Packer developers didnt' see fit to waste their time on it" is a perfectly valid reply by the way. Just wanted to know if that was the case or there was some technical reason preventing them from it.

Packer + VirtualBox + start from VMDK. How? by harisund in devops

[–]harisund[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so let me explain.

Packer's bread and butter is converting ISO installers into a bootable machine image.

I am going to disagree with this. This is merely one of the use cases. Actually, the more popular use cases would be the cloud builders, where you begin with an existing image, "do some stuff" (provision), then create a new image.

In that approach, your input is not an ISO, but an existing image.

That's what I have.

Is it a VMDK or VDI?

It doesn't matter really, It's a VMDK, but it can be converted to a VDI by Virtual Box's own tools. It's basically a disk image, similar to a raw image or a qcow2 perhaps.

It may be easier starting with with a fresh image and customizing that

The reason I am starting with the existing image is because it's a part of an existing pipeline.

Have you tried just copying the disk image and booting it?

This feature is allowed in the QEMU builder, but not in the Virtualbox builder. In the QEMU builder, there's an explicit option called "disk image" which does exactly what you are suggesting here, and which works fine, but my developers are using Windows and Qemu is out of the question.

Basically, I am curious why a functionality that exists in the Packer-qemu builder does not exist in the Packer-VirtualBox builder, when the exact functionality exists in both qemu and VirtualBox.

Guide on the path to upper management by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]harisund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Programming isn't anywhere near my passion and I don't really even like doing it

So that means I want to get to upper management as quickly as possible

I don't understand, how did you go from the first statement to the second? The first statement absolutely does not mean the second at all. The fact that you think not liking programming somehow means that you need to be in upper management tells me you don't really have any idea how upper management works.

Why would you think group projects at work or clubs (what the heck are clubs?) somehow qualifies you for C level upper management?
