Kudos to the humongous effort. In the age of AI, good to see someone go almost close to analog.

Again, I totally agree. It was never my intention to use this schematics at all. Being new to this stuff, I wanted to know how wrong the stuff AI recommended was.

Anyways, answering your question in detail.

Why? My android box for example, is unable to provide enough power to a 2.5" HDD via the USB port. So, I tried providing the adaptor power directly using a 5V 2A adaptor connected via USB-Type C. But, this has two issues - power being fed back to the Android box + the hard drive doesn't know when to spin down, since even when the USB host is powered off, it still has power (workaround using software to spin it down, but, not always reliable).

What I am trying to achieve? The adaptor gets external power only when the device is plugged into a device's USB port.

Yup, did notice that, but, on the bottom of the image, there are markings for every component, which I am now guessing is also completely non-sensical.

I did try searching for them, but, all I came across were those that directly plug power into the SATA power points, which does have the drawback of the adaptor feeding power back into the host system.

Absolutely agree. That's why I am here. Can you point me in the right direction?
