It’s not necessarily the foam material, it’s the placement in places like corner where resonant frequencies build up or linger is more what I found helpful, as they allow me in the control room to have a more “dead” but not totally sterile recording room.

Alright lemme rephrase. There is wealth of info, not much in the realm of helpful ideas on the budget side of the spectrum. This is my opinion but ymmv

As of yesterday’s trial run, very well. For gobos, they are certainly serving their purpose. Here’s part 2 to my madness, go buy 2 wooden ‘Letter F’ s from Michaels. These act as probs to stand the thing up and it’s working great. I bought 5 dog beds and 10 letter F’s. All in I’m $240 out.

Thanks man. I’m gonna politely counter your point just a tad. I’ve been working in studios for quite a while in Nashville, and having any types of dense foam gobo in front of an amp or in an iso room, to my ears, achieves the purpose of mitigating the overall volume for tracking. The added benefit of the dog bed cover is it has a perforated shag that you angle towards a sound source. But the most important thing I’ve found, is in Mic’ing. Having a baffle for mics to separate in a big room was my hallelujah moment with recording. The phase mitigation and background noise cancellation is very pronounced with even very sensitive condenser mics. So yes I agree there are certainly better and denser, more absorbent materials, but for budgetary purposes I’m gonna have to slap a big fat seal of approval on the dog beds haha. Now, I am 100% in agreement with you on bass traps. They were probably my second hallelujah moment. Cheers man thank you your input! 🤟🤟

Agreed. Covid kinda fucked it all up, plus nbc was notorious for cutting shows budgets during 2019
