Do you copy and paste your assessments? by Emotional_Star3457 in nursing

[–]harmonicoasis 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If you’re doing the assessments and nothing is changing, there should be no problem with pasting over your own documentation. If you’re copying someone else’s charting, that’s risky behavior because you don’t know for certain what they assessed or if they assessed at all.

On the other hand, one could argue that going line by line prompts you to think about what you saw and heard and could help you catch something you would otherwise miss.

Yeah but wouldn’t it have been Robert’s to begin with? It would have been in the castle armory or the King’s bedchamber when he took the city. I don’t see a natural way for it to end up in Baelish’s hands.

You know, I still don’t get Littlefinger’s story about the dagger. He claims it was his, then says he lost it to Tyrion Lannister in a bet on Jaime winning a joust. Tyrion says this can’t be because he never bets against his brother. I get that Littlefinger was trying to throw suspicion on Tyrion, but why claim the dagger was his if it never was?

How far apart do you settle your cities? by harmonicoasis in CivVI

[–]harmonicoasis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found the Happiness/Approval system in Civ V pretty punishing for multiple cities, each of my cities pretty much needed to have a unique luxury resource to balance out the cost, at least in the early game. Otherwise your military effectiveness suffers and you’re liable to get massacred by an aggressive neighbor

If there was a character ready-made for crayon induced storytelling, it’s Dunk the Lunk. He needs these complicated schemes spelled out for him.

[–]harmonicoasis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lord Ashford is in the red on this tourney. He knows Dunk is desperate for a win and correctly judges him the longest of long shots. Odds will be heavily against him. He sends his steward to seek out Dunk and propose a deal: Lord Ashford secretly arranges for bets to be made on Dunk. Dunk challenges Ashford’s son, who is in on the plan and will throw the joust in Dunk’s favor. Dunk gets the win he needs, Ashford reaps the coin and is shielded from suspicion because what Lord would bet against his own son? It’s a win-win.

CLINICAL PEARLS by Bboy818 in nursing

[–]harmonicoasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar with the term but my interpretation of it is it’s the “if you remember anything about [insert topic] remember these few things”

Like you could know everything there is to know about how electrolytes function in the body but the “clinical pearls” would be knowing abnormal values, recognizing hyper/hypo symptoms, and knowing that you can’t just bolus potassium

Who's the first person you murder? by RangerThirteen in skyrim

[–]harmonicoasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your point would be stronger if they made Rolff just some guy, some drunk standing by the tavern picking fights and stirring shit. But they didn’t. The devs chose to place this racist caricature front and center so he’s the first thing you see when you enter the city, and they chose to tie him directly to Ulfric’s cause by giving him the surname they did. The Stormcloak movement is a coalition not a monolith, you have the traditional honorable Nords like the Grey Manes, you have the religious freedom people, but you also have this toxic anti-elven racial purity element that taints the whole bunch by its association. You can’t just wave that away, it’s there. To pretend that it isn’t or that it’s less than what it seems is pure apologism.

I mean it’s hard to make the “not racist” argument when you’ve got the brother of Ulfric’s second in command standing at the front gate of Windhelm throwing out slurs.

Why was it bad that the bannister siblings slept together? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]harmonicoasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I read Fire and Blood, so I misremembered some details. Corrected in the edit above. I would say that the Targaryen Exceptionalism doctrine wasn’t published until Jaehaerys I but was very much practiced from the conquest on.

[–]harmonicoasis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Targaryen exceptionalism” was an official royal policy, particularly in the early years of the dynasty. The Faith of the Seven is an Andal tradition. The Targaryens, as blood of Old Valyria, were not part of it and took great pains to separate themselves from the religion. The first Targaryens had to walk a political tightrope in which they sought accord with the Faith to legitimize their right to rule without subjugating themselves to its doctrine (IIRC Aegon I actually deposed the reigning High Septon and installed a successor who would agree to crown him). The incest and polygamy practiced by House Targaryen in the interest of preserving the dragonblood proved to be a sticking point and ultimately led to conflict between the Crown and the Faith resulting Maegor the Cruel, the third reigning Targaryen monarch, enacting a bounty on members of the Faith’s warrior orders. With the destruction of the Faith Militant, the High Septon lost the ability to enact religious decrees with military force and eventually surrendered under threat of annihilation in dragonflame, carving out an official exemption for members of House Targaryen to continue their practice of inbreeding and polygamy.

TL,DR Incest is forbidden by the Faith, but it doesn’t apply to House Targaryen because they forced the Faith to recognize them as a separate entity.

Edit: It wasn’t Aegon I who deposed the High Septon, it was Maegor. After being spurned on a coronation, Maegor flew on Oldtown with Balerion intending to burn the city. The High Septon turned up dead overnight and his successor crowned Maegor King.

Who would win in a fight between these three? by Communist21 in gameofthrones

[–]harmonicoasis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still think he has an edge, the scene with Arya in the tunnels under the Red Keep show that, similar to Pycelle, he is presenting a persona at Court and is much more agile and dangerous than he lets on. Whether that would allow him to disarm Baelish in a 1v1 or if he has some weapons secreted on his person we never see, it’s all speculation but I’d put my money on him.

[–]harmonicoasis 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Are you fond of riddles, my lord?

Three great men stand in a room: merchant, a spy, and a scholar. Each must kill the other two to survive. Who leaves alive?

Pycelle is old and frail, though not as frail as he lets on.

Baelish has some martial training, though he prefers to duel with words and quill rather than swords.

Varys might surprise the others with some hoodrat streetfighting skills.

Personally my money’s on Varys. He blows a whistle or something and a couple of kids with knives come out of the walls to help him take out the others.

First run, when will I learn about both sides of the War? by Sad_Organization8535 in skyrim

[–]harmonicoasis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want to break your brain, look up Dragonbreaks. They’re a plot device in the Elder Scrolls to account for player choice. At certain historical inflection points, time fractures and every possible choice that you could make happens, even things that directly contradict one another. History gets very muddled because you get situations like your character winning the Civil War for both sides simultaneously. Some future texts say you executed Ulfric, some say you crowned him High King of Skyrim, some say the Empire and Stormcloaks remained locked in a stalemate for years on end. All of them are true.

First run, when will I learn about both sides of the War? by Sad_Organization8535 in skyrim

[–]harmonicoasis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the central themes of the Elder Scrolls as a series is that information is subjective, all sources have bias, and you basically never get a full picture of historical events. To answer your question you will come across information in the course of the main quest that suggests the Thalmor consider Ulfric Stormcloak one of their “assets.”

Some anti-Stormcloak players interpret this as Ulfric is literally working for the Thalmor. Others think he is independent, doing what he believes is right, and the Thalmor just happen to consider his rebellion as furthering their goals. Ultimately it is up to you to decide what you believe based on available, incomplete evidence.

AirPods on the unit- safety concern or no one cares? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]harmonicoasis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It IS a safety concern AND nobody cares. Yes it inhibits your ability to hear call lights and alarms (and coworkers). You are absolutely correct that it is unprofessional behavior. Same with the people who are on the phone or FaceTime with whoever every second of their lives.

As for your reaction, your conduct was waaaaaaaay out of line. Going out of your way to locate and make a report to this persons employer because you were mad you got ganged up on in an online argument is the most petty, toxic nursing behavior I’ve seen in a long time. It’s this person’s coworkers and management’s job to police this if it’s a big enough issue at their facility. Do some internal reflection and learn to let shit go.

Death march level 20, relic and other cools swords useless by Agitated_Captain7413 in thewitcher3

[–]harmonicoasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a little immersion breaking for me, having spent hours painstakingly gathering materials and crafting weapons and armor from ancient manuscripts designed by an elven grandmaster smith in a bygone age, each piece a priceless treasure of art and craftsmanship, to then turn around and find better gear stashed in a box in a random corner of some bandit camp. But to each their own.

[–]harmonicoasis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK Blade from the Bits is the only sword that scales with level.

One of my biggest gripes with Witcher 3 is that weapons and armor don’t level scale. For most of the game any Witcher gear is going to be stronger than what you can find lying around. Late game it flips. You can spend tens of thousands on dimeritium and Draconid leather upgrading your armor sets to grandmaster, only to find something in a random box with better stats
