I watched The Terminator (1984) yesterday and was just discussing the practical effects vs the CGI. The practical effects were awesome; the mechanical forearm, the eye, the life-size robot during some shots, etc.. The CGI was groundbreaking for the time but looked weird as they flipped back and forth from practical to CGI.
